That radiator was shipped to the vendor "Completes Plus" in February via YRC ( Yellow Feight/Roadway).

I'm guessing that it was fulfilled via something like shopatron since RA didn't have it.

Amazon/Autoplicity canceled my Denso order. A few days later, Amazon had them in stock. I reordered and it finally arrived about a week ago. $185 shipped. Rock Auto is also showing them in stock now for $151.

Has anyone heard about the transmission cooler tube corrosion/leak leading to mix trans fluid and coolant in old radiators (known as pink-milk-shake)? I think I have the same factory radiator. The pink milk shake is common among 3rd gen 4runners with factory radiators.

Nice to see them in. I was beginning to think Denso stop making altogether.

I've not heard that one around here. 100's typically leak where plastic is joined.

I've heard of the milkshake.... not common with 100's. But transmission fluid does indeed pass through the lower tank of the 100 radiator. Would be interested to know who manufactured OEM 3rd Gen 4runner radiators.

That is indeed good to hear. I am not sure who made 3rd gen 4runner radiators but it is highly likely DENSO.

My original went to 220k miles. Replacement I think quit after 65k miles OEM Toyota. Took it to toyota tech today and says the radiator internal transmission cooler is leaking.

Interesting, I've not seen this before. Would you share your maintenance (flushing) procedure with us: How often miles & time between and with what?

Sure 2001LC, Since my original radiator I flush every 30k to keep things clean, always at the toyota dealer which always uses Toyota red coolant.
As Hoser mentioned the tranny line does pass through the lower portion of the radiator. Toyota tech and independent toyota shop both confirmed the white sticky substance was due to a leak from the line. It may have been the weak link in this particular radiator, exterior still looks new! I had the second radiator about 4yrs approx. 60k miles, so I'm disappointed this OEM failed. It didn't go the distance and crack at the plastic top at 200k plus like the first. Guess we have high expectations from Toyota parts, once in a while all manufactures produce a bad ...

Thanks. FWIW few others have posted disappointment with OEM replacement radiators.

My oem lasted 200k and then developed a leak. The first oem replacement i received had abrasions to the lower neck flange which is exactly where the seal occurs with the lower hose. Looked like the neck protruded through the cardboard box and was drug across concrete. And some of the fins were mashed and it was simply unacceptable. Long story longer, they sent me a replacement.

Radiator, thermostat, and a new fan clutch and bracket and im ready for another central arkansas summer of 2017 where we have the highest summer average heat index in the lower 48.

Woo pig

I'm installing new radiator this weekend, if I can disassemble the lower part and take a few pics I'll do it,set aside from saw sawing it apart.

You might send a sample of that contaminated radiator fluid to Blackstone Labs to confirm what's in there.

As for durability or service life of Toyota OEM replacement parts; OEM vs OES parts are often made to different standards- I think this gets overlooked. OES is what comes on the vehicle from the factory, often designed to a higher standard to get the vehicle through the end of the manufacturers warranty period to minimize claims. OEM parts that we buy from the Toyota dealer are not always designed to the same standard as OES, in fact most manufacturers spec their OEM replacement parts for narrowed duty cycle to increase service and parts dept revenue. OES Toyota suppliers like Aisin or Denso will produce 1 grade for production and another for OEM replacement parts. This might be one factor why the original radiator might last in excess of 200k miles, and the OEM replacement less than 100k.

Makes senses @abuck99. I've long held that the best part are what came from factory. Protect them and don't be quick to replace.

What I was thinking is right. This leak is the pink milkshake that destroyed many 3rd gen 4runner trans. The radiator is so good it lasts for 15+ years so no one will replace it. But no one will think the trans cooler will leak before anything else. Many 4Runner owners now bypass the radiator and install an external cooler in front of the AC condenser. It seems to work perfect. I feel like doing it to my cruiser.

I've been wondering about getting a new radiator for my cruiser before my trip to FL, and I saw this pink milkshake today :-(. So, yes, I'll get a new radiator before my trip. I saw one on ebay for $94 with free shipping. Anybody have a feed back on those? The seller has sold many of these.

With heat being the only thing that'll kill these engines, I'm not sure I'd go the cheap route. Especially with the Denso down to $169:
Amazon.com: Denso 221-3152 Radiator: Automotive

If the Denso available I agree with @labcab, get it.

I bought a cheap one because the Denso was out of stock for months. Although it does it's job, it cost me in time to modify due to factory mistakes. Seller was willing to replace, but pulling again, shipping and waiting for return wasn't in the cards.
