OK, I'll go with Denso since I trust DENSO and AISIN brands a lot after OEM.

Does anyone know how many rows in the Denso radiator? I cannot find it on advertised sites.

This should be the radiator, correct?
1998-2006 Lexus LX470 Radiator - Cooling System - Denso 98-06 LX470 Radiator - 7747-09028785 - PartsGeek

Here is something to note:
The Denso radiator states the core thickness as 53 mm (2 inches) while other brands state it is 25 mm (1 inch). I observed the same thing for my 4runner: Denso is 1.25 inches thick while all other aftermarket is just 1 inch thick.

Thank you guys!

The description at the link above has the Denso model number, 221-3152. So yes it appears to be correct.

^^^ Thanks. I used the DENSO model number you posted and bought it from a seller on eBay for $173 shipped.

Debating whether to go with the Denso or a Spectra for my 99 LX470.

Both are exact fit (drop in). Denso has 12 month warranty, Spectra is 24 months. Spectra is pressure tested before leaving factory (no surprises). Both cost about the same.

^^^ This is like Toyota giving 60,000 miles and Hyundai or KIA giving 100,000 mile warranty. But we know which lasts millions of years!

I'll bet both are tested. Are both same thickness?

I can't find anything stating that each Denso Radiator is 'tested' only that each 'model' has been tested and meets certain manufacturing criteria.

The Denso Radiator (221-3152) is 1-5/8" thick, the Spectra (CU2282) is 1-3/4".

Denso made in Taiwan, Spectra in Canada.

Denso 1 yr. limited Warranty, Spectra 2 yr. limited Warranty.

Spectra pressure tested before leaving factory.

Both are 'drop in' replacements.

I like Denso products but I am not 'brand loyal' for sake of being a purist. I will always choose the BEST product for the application. If that happens to be Denso, great. But Denso was not the original supplier...so I am comparing the two since I am going aftermarket anyway.

If truly built in Canada and thicker I'd be swayed in that direction. I'd try it out.

But keep in mind, Denso is one of our most reliable line of other OEM products in the 100's.

Just before I purchased mine I saw few sellers showing its dimensions, and the thickness (Aluminum core) as 53 mm (2 inches).

^^^^^^^^^^^ Can't speak to the accuracy of what the "Sellers" advertised, but I got my information directly from both manufacturers sites.

Yes, Toyota/Aisin/Denso for me....most of the time. Your point is well taken. But I've read of some problems with Denso radiators (new out of the box) in the past.... and until just recently...a lack of availability. Maybe that's because they are good (and in high demand) or maybe there was a problem, I don't know.

I think I'll try the Specta and let you guys know what I find. It's a scant $20.00 more to find out, I'll be the guinea pig for that amount.

Spectra: "Spectra Premium Complete Radiators are tested in an endurance simulator in order to ensure that they exceed original equipment standards. Only the highest grades of materials are used in production to ensure product longevity. Spectra Premium Complete Radiators are drop in fit for easy installation and are validated for fit, form, and function before released into the market. All complete radiators are 100 per cent leak tested and equipped with accessory packs to accommodate various original equipment models. Spectra Premium Complete Radiators are manufactured under ISO 9001 / TS 16949 quality system."

Cool, do post what you find.

Here is the picture of dimensions for the Denso radiator.
units are in mm.

Don't see a Model Number on that drawing/rendering? Like I said....I got my info right from the Denso site (for a 221-3152), you'll have to argue with them, not convince me you found something contrary on a seller's site somewhere. We already established that I thought?

Denso 221-3152 OE Replacement Radiator

Found a great thread on Denso & Spectra radiators. From my brief reading of the thread, my guess is the Denso radiator has better cooling/thermal transfer performance for both engine coolant and transmission fluid. However, the Spectra appears to have a more reliable transmission cooler construction. (This is assuming those companies use that same design for their 100 series radiators).

If somebody has an old T-Rad radiator sitting around, I'd be interested in seeing one cut apart. I know a couple have received replacement T-Rad radiators that leaked upon install. It easier to fix leaks at the end tanks than anything internal. I'm surprised any radiator would leave a factory without being pressure tested. I wonder if said radiators were damaged during shipping.

I was going to pull plastic top off old factory radiator. Turnout to be more trouble than it was worth, so just drop off at recycler. I should have rip with my sawzall first....:bang:
