mine too. Still great after years and years.

+1 Aussie. Best mod for the $ for traction with good tires.

I've never run an aussie, but I've had a couple lockrites, and they were good. Never broke anything, but in parking lots and such with tight turns, they would ratchet up and unload sometimes.... errr most times. Never caused an issue, just kinda felt funky.

My experience with them has only been in toy p/u's and 4runners fwiw....

I was just about to grab the spartan, but then I googled "spartan locker failure" and the results scared the crap out of me.

My review is almost 30k miles behind a turbo 1FZ, zero issues. Works great when you need it and very very few bad handling characteristics when you don't. I can count on 1 hand the number of times I have wished I didn't have it. About the only scary one was an off camber, mud covered road that was slicker than ice. With both back wheels locked it just wanted to slide to the edge. I thought I was losing the truck that day. Lol

Ordered a spartan last week. I can post up a review once I get some use behind it if anyone's interested.

FYI they are cheap as hell on amazon right now: Amazon.com: USA Standard Gear (SL TLC-30) Spartan Locker for Toyota Landcruiser 9.5" differential with 30 spline axles: Automotive . Only one left!

90% of those appear to be Dana 30's? I don't see any Land Cruiser failures. Using toys like a Dana 30 with big wheels and tires is going to cause issues.

A jeep Dana 30 can have a 7.2" ring gear, compared to 9.5" for the LC rear. That's why the 80 is considered much more robust than Cherokee/grand Cherokee

The spartan I just installed has around a thousand mile on it. Quality looks good. It does ratchet on asphalt, it supposed to, I have yet to hear it on dirt.

Aussie here and no issues, will be your cheapest option and one of the best/proven. Detroit is beefier but quite a bit more expensive. Choose your poison, can't go wrong either way.

I however did have installation/figment issue with another locker but I forgot the name so I would suggest to stick with Aussie or Detroit.

Glad to hear that! You're not the first guy I've talked to on here who has had theirs for a while with nothing but positive things to say...except for slippery surfaces. Unfortunately thats par for the course though with any autolocker.

Also, Dana 30s are absolute crap. One of the first things people upgrade for very good reason...

Quieted down any? I've read they are quite loud during the first week or two then a bit noticeable at times but nothing too extreme. How has it been for you?

I've been running an Aussie for the last 6+ years.

It's been seamless. Personally, I love the ratcheting sounds...reminds me of the squeaky brakes, from running track pads on my track car.

heavier gear oil quieted mine down... never quieted down from age/miles.

I have the Lokka variety...going on 4 years and approx 40K miles. No issues at all. Best $250 I have spent on my truck.

I don't like the auto lockers. On icy roads they greatly aid the rear of the vehicle to spin out and start you in a spin when u hit the gas. Does the same thing when you let off the gas, it's like lightly pulling the parking brake. One time I let off the gas with the snow plow on the front going about 50mph on ice and the rear-end kicked out, meanwhile someone had stopped 100 yards ahead. I drifted that boat into the oposing lane, drifted past the guy, drifted it back onto the right side of the road, slowly straightened it out and continued on. I think I had the shakes for about 30 minutes after that. When pulling a trailer, when you hit the gas the locker engages and causes the whole truck to shift and thus the whole trailer to shift which is pretty unnerving. Offroad they are great, but for a daily driver a selectable locker is way way nicer. I still can't get used to no clicking driving around a parking lot now I have a selectable.

Driving on ice is difficult for any vehicle, but an autolocker adds more complexity and risk.

If you have one and you are driving on ice, avoid going from drive to coast and coast to drive as much as possible as this causes the locker to switch drive sides. If one wheel is in the middle of its ratchet cycle, it can engage violently which would tend to cause the wheel to slip on ice. This is especially true in turns, when the outside wheel is ratcheting rapidly. If you have to get on or off the gas, do it slowly.

Aussie sitting on counter ready for install.

I agree... Isn't this less of an issue with the 80 series being full time AWD especially the viscous coupler versions? Or do you feel it doesn't matter so much... Locker+ice= sucks

Also think I'll order an auburn max lock just to mix it up and have another brand to report back on... unless I read up more and find something I don't like (such as the warranty isn't as good) then I'd go Aussie... Thanks:beer:
