That was my concern too. My original cupholder got hot on freeway. I have this prototype on my truck for almost 3 weeks. And I drove the truck from Columbus OH to Chicago, and Great Smokey Mountain. I touched the inside of the holding areas. I didn’t feel the heat. My explanations: the original cupholder are made with injection molding. The wall is very thin, like 2.5 mm. It is basically a shell structure, or more like a stamped part. But 3d printed part, if you go back to look at the pictures, has very thick walls. This may contribute to better thermal insulation.Ben, I may have missed this... but does your cupholder do/allow for anything to insulate the cupholder from the drivetrain heat? My wife complains (rightly so) that the cupholder cooks her Diet Cokes. Or, is this just a matter of putting some FatMat in there during the swap?

That bezel's color match to ivory is mint, hit it with some 1200 grit and youre done. Looks greatBen did an amazing job with the control unit from an Icom 2730a.
On the other hand, I'd about kill for that slot. So don't take it out completely, BenCC!!!!Now that is nifty!!! I like the idea of a small pocket in the side pocket for stuff. Normally if I am on a long trip I take my wallet out and put in the side pocket along with glasses case (in Alita it goes in the top part of center console). It would be nice to have something that doesn't allow the wallet to slide around and whatnot.
On a different note, been doing my normal commute and everything with the cupholders and absolutely LOVE it. Only thing I don't like about it, and is really circumstantial for me, is the wallet/phone slot. I really don't have a need for it so it is just wasted space for me. Taking that out would allow for passenger cup holder to expand to same size as drivers I am assuming @BenCC?
I am pretty sure he had planned to have a couple different versions, with and without the slot I believe. On the other hand, I'd about kill for that slot. So don't take it out completely, BenCC!!!!
I agree. I like the bright color as well. The pic of the black one shows how hard it is to see stuff in there. Are you going to consider making various colors?Actually I like the insert in bright color, like red, yellow or orange. Easier to find stuff.
Hell even a light grey color would work in this regard. Just something to create some color contrast is all that is needed really. Did this on my glovebox insert for my 60 from Joey (@NLXTACY ) and when I painted it I went with a light colored gray just a shade or two lighter than the grey interior and it created a nice contrast.I agree. Still using the prototype and really haven't come up with any complaints/issues other than what has already been sent over to Ben privately. It gets used daily as this is my DD and I have coffee mugs, blender mugs, etc. that it does great with. The butterfly mechanism definitely comes in handy and the ability to move the butterfly one way or the other is awesome.Any progress on the mother of all cupholders ?
