I definitely considered making one, and new kind of kills the budget build, but the system as a whole is a great addition to the truck so i figured what the hell.

I had the same thought in the beginning but I justified;) the filler cost by the low cost of my tank and the other parts I had.
Its has been great traveling having the 500 mile range this mod gives.

Liking the tank improvisation!

-From your sig I never guessed you had done as much as you had, glad I took a look, yours is nice!

(Then again, I dropped my sig line too, so really unless you knew my old sig he new is totally pedestrian)

Back on topic, are we talking something like 4 Ben Franklins for the dual filler neck?

I never persued a subtank back when, so a setup like yours seems doable if the neck is the bulk of the cost.

Thanks, and that's pretty close on cost, slightly less but not much. The filler neck with the restrictor for unleaded is NLA , but I could still get the one with the larger throat (for a diesel, I suspect). Since I'm not in CA, im all good. Really with not a whole lot of work, one could probably be retrofitted.

As far as the sig line- i guess i just have to get after that one:beer:

I made more headway on my sub tank install today. I installed the dual filler neck. It was really pretty easy, just remove the latch from the inside under the access panel, and take out the 4 screws. Next, I hack sawed the vent and fill pipe off.

In went the new filler, fit nicely. There is a blank in the plastic skirt at the top that i just drilled out and the supplied grommet fit in for the tank selector pull handle.

Next was to mark the body where the straps lined up with the tank ratchet strapped in. Then pull the tank and drill the holes in the body

I pulled out the plastic covers for the back of the lower gate hinge and squeezed my arm in there to drop a bolt down for the rear part of the strap. That sucked! Hacked my arm up but i got it. After dropping the bolts, through, I ran a lock washer and nut on to hold it permanently.
On the front part of the strap, i welded a washer to a nut then held it up to the hole in the body with a bolt and welded the washer in.

I bolted up the tank and it fits perfect! I used threaded rod about 9" long on the front, and my rear bolts hang just enough. Now I will take it out and continue plumbing.

Yeah man! Sounds good to me

Finally made headway on the auxiliary gas tank today. I got a tank from a 4 door Chevy Tracker that holds 16 gallons (for $20!) that looks like it would work well.
What year Tracker did you pull it out of?

I actually don't know what year it is, but I am going back out there sometime this week to grab the fuel sender wiring (I wasn't going to use it, but I might now), so I will check. I'm betting late 90's. The 2 door Sidekick/Trackers there had smaller tanks under them. I am not even certain that this is 16 gallons, but I believe it is at least that from internet searching. I have seen some listed as 17 gallons. By dimensions, it comes our around 16ish (It has the rounded sides so I guestimated a bit). I will know when I do my initial fill and report back. Hopefully after this weekend!

More progress on the su tank. I welded the bung on the filler pipe and powder coated it as well as the tank straps. The coating on the tank is suber tough so i sandblasted the grime off of it and the few rusty spots. Then I recoated the whole thing with good 3m undercoating. cut me a cover out of stainless for the one hole I'm not using. He was having fun and engraved it too. I bought materials for an underside of the truck refresh this weekend, that's all thats keeping me from starting reassembly.

Picked it up with the 12,500# capacity fork lift, and backed it up with another and hot water power washed the bottom side. Next day will be blast and paint

Nice and clean but she has a suprising amount of rust coming from Missouri

Picked it back up today and pulled the rear springs to powder coat, then sand blasted the crusty stuff to prep it for paint

I used "Chassis Saver" paint in semi gloss. It uses moisture from the air to harden and is supposed to be super tough. We'll see. I sprayed it using my touch up spray gun for better control, also their reducer to thin it.

Two coats of paint, blasted and powder coated the springs and back together. Now ready to proceed with the sub tank install.
