A few updates in the forever saga. The stock MB power steering/ fuel filter head mounting was too close to the power steering box. I decided to make my own, based on a Saginaw power steering pump. A few attempts were necessary to finally achieve my desired goal.
I also finally got the new turbo re-clocked to fit the Benz exhaust. The HE200wg turbo I’m useing is found on the Cummins 2.8. Doomsday Diesel makes a slick adapter that bolts right on and eliminates the need to weld the aluminum intake.

Got the transmission/transfer case installed short term. Using the fj60 transmission crossmember. Instead of cutting and re-welding the frame mount components, I decided to make my own. Need to pull the transmission combo out again, so I can drill and weld captured nuts into the frame. Enjoying the sunshine coming in through the windows this time of year.

Someday I have to revisit my crossmember and rethink it. Mine came out right there at the body mount. Look forward to what you come up with.

Wow, they’re everywhere! Noticed that myself about 3-4 years ago, but haven’t messed with it. Got the transmission back out so I can drill the frame. Wish I had one of the right angle drills we used to use in the OR. Could’ve left the transmission in place and know the holes were perfect.

I thought you liked the Penthouse style of Bill’s photos?
I love everything about this build including the photos but I’m getting older and every time Bill post a new photo I’ve forgotten about Bill’s photos and I grab a pair of my seeing eye glasses to try to see his photos. Gets me every time!!!

I also used an early 60 3-piece cross member on my OM617/H55 swap. I was able to cut down the center section and drill new slots, utilizing the capture nuts in the L-brackets. Ended up welding to the frame, couldn’t figure out how to get nuts welded in that part of the frame and didn’t want to fully sleeve. Had plenty of room to lift rib over with the soft MB motor mounts. You can see how far aft the original tranny mount brackets in the pics.

Decided to use 5/16 angle for my frame brackets. My thought is to drill the frame rail holes at 1”. This will allow me to use a piece of 1/8” plate with welded nuts on backside as a attach point for the angle bracket. The 1/8” plate would be welded to the frame around the sides, and several points through plate. Open to suggestions in feasibility.
