Anyone here running a turndown instead of a tailpipe? (2 Viewers)

My second Bosal tailpipe has rusted away to nothing and actually broke off after the axle

Thinking about just running a turndown on what's left of the axle jump pipe to prevent the hot exhaust from melting my rear winch until I can afford another full replacement

At the moment mine is whacked off about the same spot yours is. (out of necessity) Been like that a few weeks. I can’t stand the fumes. I can’t even drive with a window opened. Anyway, it hasn’t melted the wiring it’s firing right at, so I’d think your winch would be OK.

Wouldn't mind adding another muffler just to keep her quiet as possible, but I might not be able to fit that with my winch in the way

I didn't notice any fumes and my cats are gutted

In fact, the only reason I noticed it was because the steam from the exhaust was coming out from both the tail pipe and passenger sie wheel well

This is what I'm dealing with....

As you can see, the break is aimed right at my winch cables

As a quick fix, I ripped off the pipe, hacked off the tip, drilled a hole and bolted it in place just to aim it down a little...

I'll probably just get a proper turndown and a band clamp this weekend

I run a turndown now as my exhaust got flattened on a moab trip, had to keep it up and out of the way of being compressed by the rear bumper, no issues now since running rubicon

I’m trying to wrap my head around what I’m seeing. You have a winch mounted under your vehicle to pull you backwards?

I'd just cruise by an exhaust shop and have them put something together. How many miles are you at now?

I have my turndown just behind the p/s rear wheel and terminates just before where the 4x4 labs bumper armor begins. Similar to @NV1971FJ40 . It looks like you would need maybe a 4-6" extension to get it to the same location as mine, but hard to tell. No issues for a few years now.

i have a turn down... When on dusty trails, all that dust gets blown upwards'kinda of annoying..

Fluid Film is your friend. I put two gallons on my 80. It has basically neutralized a lot of rust and i was able to scrap some scale easily after it had soaked for a month or two. Highly recommend doing it.

As for your exhaust, just get some pipe and weld it to your end and turn it off like @inkpot did, similar to my solution after i chopped resonator off.

Notice the extra weld on hanger coming down from the cross member on my exhaust. It really steadies it and reduces the stress and strain on the rest of the system.

I’m trying to wrap my head around what I’m seeing. You have a winch mounted under your vehicle to pull you backwards?

I pulled the spare winch and welded up a winch mount to bolt up in its place

Husky 10 is slow, but it's an absolute BEAST of a winch

I’ve been running the EMS above the framerail exit since when ever that system came out. It’s basically a turndown. Wouldn’t do it any other way. I don’t get any exhaust smell but it is definitely louder than a traditional tailpipe. I had one on my 60 as well right behind the axle pointed straight down. I got exhaust smell from that one. So I’d just say make sure it’s angled at a 45° towards the back and it should be good based on my experience.
