Anyone go from a 200 back to a 100? (1 Viewer)

Interesting. Didn't know there would be difference. In LX570 seats are great. I like them better than 470. Thing is - any road trip we take 570 and not wife's GLS because of seats.

Another "basic" thing about LX that I simply love. It's not widely advertised. And surprisingly, it's not on other luxury cars or I didn't figure it out? I am talking about Climate Concierge. Some people don't use Climate Control, they feel like constant adjustment needed. I do use Climate Control.

In my previous BMW: Start car, turn on heat seat(1). Turn on steering wheel heat(2). Drive. Turn down/off seat heat(3-5) (one long press will turn off). Turn off steering wheel heat(6). So. up to 6 extra pushes on buttons. It's hidden "feature" to do long press on seat heat to turn it off, instead of clicking 3 times.

In my wifes GLS: Same as BMW but you have to click seat heat 3 times to run off (no long press)

In LX: Start, drive. It turns on heat/vent when needed, how much needed. And noone talks about it. I think it's brilliant. You only understand when you go back.

This is what car needs: Good seats, quiet cabin, good suspension, good climate control and audio.
Ironically, the climate control in my 2016 LC is what will be the final straw for us. The climate control actually induces rage in my wife. The dang thing is either blowing a lot of hot air or a lot of cold air, rarely is it blowing air at the perfect temperature at the right speed unless you have been driving for more than 1/2 an hour. I know the seat vent/heat can be automatic, but that is not a feature we use.

I typically use heat in the winter to defrost if needed, after that’s it’s set at like 72-75 and lowest fan. AC I’m more of a windows down guy unless it’s like 100+ and humid. Typically my wife tests my AC. Was never one to turn my car on to let it warm up for me. Typically work outside so I’m dressed for the conditions.

But jeeps are cool 🤣. I got a whole family of people that think jeep is the off road king(none of them off road). I just laugh to myself knowing I have arguably the king of tough SUVs.
I mean they really are. There’s not a single stock vehicle that’s gonna out-wheel a bone stock Rubicon. Toyota was close with the 80 but even those have the weight/size and power disadvantage.

Yeah all around Land Cruiser is king but strictly offroad capability I gotta give it to the Jeep.

Ths issues described above - KDSS, cam tower and coolant valley leaks, radiators, etc. Everything seems to be more expensive on the 200. Just the radiator alone can cost over a grand to replace.
I mean there are pluses and minus for everything. You can have your cake and eat it too can you.... Lol

Btw I own a Tundra 5.7l. It's a great engine as well. Nothing to bad if you do the work yourself. Nothing is perfect. Which is why we get Toyota's. In that sense you can say we get Toyota's because we like being lazy... Lol

Despite the obvious differences in power and torque numbers, when I drove them on same days, same roads and highways, I feel that the 06/07 Hundy (5 speed and extra hp from vvti) feels almost the same as the 200 series, speed- and power-wise. Unless you drag race them, or do 85+ mph, the difference is not that noticeable. I don't do towing though.

When offroading, the 100 series feels more "connected" to the terrain and less risky compared to 200 series. The 200 series is too insulated from the environment and hard to tell exactly where the wheels are in gnarly conditions...

Also, the 200 series is wider by quite a bit, bad enough that I almost got it stuck in a Starbucks drive through 😂 You almost have to fold both mirrors to pass through... Oh, and I don't get it why the 200 series don't have the adjustable arm-rest anymore. That's one of the best features for road trips, combined with the perfect width of 100 series so I can rest my left elbow on the door panel and right elbow on the arm-rest :D
As far as I know, although the 200 somehow looks bigger and more ponderous, it's really only an inch or so wider and a couple inches longer than the 100. Definitely a couple inches narrower than a Sequoia etc

It’s significantly heavier though, especially compared to the 98-02s. The 5-speed 100s gained quite a bit of weight for some reason - maybe cause of the bigger transmission.

Airbags/safety equipment. The 5 speed auto more than made up for it though. Owned an 01 LX and currently have an 04 LC.

Well they gained something like 3/4 of a percent in total weight, probably not the end or the world, and you could reduce that by half if you took out the 3rd row probably. The 200s are really only a couple hundred pounds more than the post update 100s. Again they look and feel bigger though.

By the specs online it looks like the added safety features added around 200 lbs. it may not seem like much, but every pond counts, especially after adding the obligatory heavy bumpers and so forth.

I do find it really interesting that there is more weight gain between the early and late 100s than between the late 100s and the early 200s. You're right that at some point the weight gains matter, but I think it's more of a personal preference. I have probably 1,000 extra pounds in/on my truck and it's still fine to me, but someone else might be bothered by it.

Toyotas heyday is mid 90 to mid 2000, in my humble opinion.. absolute pinnacle combo of technology simplicity and quality. Not saying older or newer are bad .. they’re just not as good

Look at some of the most outstanding vehicles ever produced.. 1st gen taco 80lc 100lc T100 3rd gen runner 1st gen tundra. Love em all.

Of course.. it’s all personal preference

For my life with 2 little kids, we take the 200 way more that the 100.

When it’s just me, I find myself taking the LX570. The power is addictive, push to start, and comfort.

I love my 100 but the LX570 serves my mall crawling life better in this stage of life. Hopefully I get the older girl out for a can’t and wheeling trip in the 100 this spring.
