Haven't updated this in awhile, sadly I sold both of my 100's a few months ago, needed the cash to fund a business opportunity. In the meantime i financed a Tacoma because the discounts were steep and interest rates were somewhat low. Never had car payments before so that's something I'm still getting used to.
Anyways, now that my business venture have returned some money, i'm in the market for another clean, rust free 06-07 100 series if anyone has any leads. I'd like to set my budget at 25K cash.
The new tacos are fun little things, drives like a tin car compares to a 100 but it's fast and get decent gas mileage.

I found one locally, southern truck that’s been in VA one winter and I didn’t see any rust. However it has a code for system too lean bank 1 and bank 2. Seller said he’s replaced several things and the code still come back. Priced right, what’s the most likely cause of that code?
That’s a good budget. Good luck on your hunt. Lean/rich codes aren’t that complicated to fix, it’s usually the maf / upstream & downstream O2 sensors, if not just like any 06/07 I’ve worked on ending culprit is the catalytic converter. Again at this age/mileage is due for replacement anyway of which you can use as a negotiating tool as well.

It’s an 06 with 170K miles, he’s replaced the O2 sensors, fuel pump, maf and fuel filter. I think it might be an air leak somewhere so I’ll have to do the smoke machine test. Really don’t want to have to replace the cats they are stupid expensive
This is where that smoke tester and a good scanner come into play. This could just be Intake gaskets as well...check the pcv. I highly doubt it's the cats at such low mileage.

Is the 3rd gen the current model or the previous model (the older ones that people are claiming are more reliable)? Sorry never understood the appeal of these small pickup trucks. I love any HD truck for their functionality. I feel like these Tacomas would not even be suitable to tow a small fishing boat. They have no guts.

Yeah I always liked how that style Tacoma looked but like I said earlier what’s the attraction to a small pickup truck like that? Payload probably sucks, I bet that thing can’t tow for s*** and it has a bed big enough for a nice haul at the grocery store, not much else.
I got alot of seat time behind a 3gen 4Runner and can’t imagine towing anything with it. It struggles to pull its own weight at highway speed.

Yeah these little 4 bangers isn't gonna tow anything. I use it to transport supplies for my wife's shop. Well since i bought it new, i'm stuck with it for awhile. I'd be eating large quantities of feces trying to get out of it now. Maybe i'll grow to like it someday, it does drive itself in traffic which is nice to have in the DC Metro area. I think i found my next 100, trying to work out a deal with him now.

Well that 100 series deal fell through, someone wanted it more than me i guess. It's insane how well the late 100s keep their resale value. A comparable 2015 with similar mileage is cheaper than what an 07 was asking for. In the end i weighed my options and for my little boy's sake, i think the 200 will have more room and is quieter ride for us. So with that being said, i picked one up today. Rides really strong and smooth, but also rides like a boat, the 100 series will always be a better looking and better driving dynamics vehicle for me. I'll still be shopping for another 100 but they're getting really rare, the clean ones are snatched up quick and the rusty ones are just too far gone around here.
