Not saying I have the patience for the diy mat- but what’s the material of choice?

I'm using this vinyl floor mat the the big orange box store. The price was fair enough to try, worst case I toss it and move along in life, best case it actually helps reduce noise and keep a little extra heat in the cab.

Delivery from @Coolerman yesterday, and another one from McMaster-Carr today.

The MC package was a handful of rubber grommets and plugs, just about perfect to seal up the holes in the tub. Once I get it put back together and running I'm going to power wash the bottom and seal all the bottom side of the plugs with some seam sealer.

Slowly putting stuff back in place. Baby steps.

On a side note, a few months ago I spotted a 40 at a local tire shop getting some work done, after asking around I heard it was being prepped for sale. So what would any cruiserhead in his right mind do?

I left a note stuck under the wiper blade.

Tonight I got a phone call from a local number, sure enough it was the owner.

It's a 75 that "looked" to be pretty raw and unmolested, rust everywhere it should be, all the parts looked to be in the right spot.

Sunday I'm going to get a close up look and chat about the details.

But then there is another jewel I spotted a few weeks ago that has my interest a whole lot more...............

There’s a troopy in CDA Idaho I keep meaning to snap a pic of to taunt you. Would look good with a fly rod vault on top.

Then there’s my new neighbors Mach 1…..

Here is the basic laydown of material I used.

A sound deadening material from Siless, 80 mil

Layer of foil backed insulation, something like 180 mil, from Siless.

A anti-fatigue mat from the orange store.

All topped off with the previously mentioned vinyl floor mat.

Still some small detail stuff to complete but now I should be back on the road.

Next up, to seal the grommets on the underside.

Just in time for fall fishing, then the big freeze. May pick your brain later for “The best slope(s)/lodge(s) you would recommend for an Eastern pilgrim looking to get off the “boiler plate” and onto powder…😉

A little help from my friends.

@rkymtnflyfisher
How did the floor mat layers turn out?
Is it insulating sound and noise like you had expected?
- Edit- seeing as you just finished it up at 1am I suppose you haven't driven it yet.
I hope to get some road testing done this afternoon, results coming soon.

I had a chance to get a drive in this afternoon while going to check out another 40.

With the windows rolled up it sounded like a pretty significant improvement, on an app on my work phone I recorded an 8 dB reduction in sound at about 55. It was about the same at 65 as well.

Roll down the windows and all bets are off.

It felt a little cooler in the cab with both windows down and the hatch closed, but it is also only 75f today.

Overall I'm not disappointed, only time eill tell if it was worth it.

And that 75 is legit.

Mechanically sound, typical rust.

16k ish range.
