I've been looking for a 40 over the past year or so and finally pulled the trigger this past weekend.

Drove down to FL and trailered home a '74. Not much of it is stock but the changes/modifications were in line with what I would have done on my own...

- 2F (low mileage and recently rebuilt), Aquala tub, front and rear disc brakes, 4speed tranny and transfer, OEM PTO winch, 4+ rear bumper, 4inch lift and brand new rims and tires (contemplating selling the rims/tires and go stock steelies). And most of the OEM wear parts have been replaced or rebuilt.

I'm working on piecing together a hardtop and will be adding power steering soon (need to figure out which PS option is best seeing that the saginaw will not work with the PTO).

Here are two pics from the trip home. I'll try to add some more this weekend.

Hi All:

Nice looking '40 - congrats!

For a PS swap, since the rig has the OE PTO winch, consider either the FJ60 or Scout-Saginaw conversions.

Both mount-up the same way (on the exterior driver's side frame rail.) Which is better . . . . I dunno. I have a buddy running the Scout-Saginaw conversion and it is working well for him. I've also heard good things about the FJ60 PS gearbox swap.

Muck around here on MUD, using the "advanced search" function and you should be able to find lots of info.

Good luck with your new rig! :)

Just go with the mini truck p/s. I run it with 35's. It's not saginaw but it helps a bunch. Run a cooler if you go that route. Great looking truck. Does it still have the stock 1.5F or did someone swap in a 2F?

Later,

Nice looking truck, congratulations. Go with a mini-truck PS with cooler. It should work fine. :steer:Ned

really nice looking rig there! and with some great mods already done you'll have time to enjoy it.. i agree with u on selling the shoes and going back to stock wheels and some 33's..

Congrats. I love the color.

Nic:cheers:e truck, nice color as well.I like the wheel/tire combo as it is, just my .02. Happy Trails

nice FJ40 and great trailer...who makes that rear rack?

The rear bumper is the Man-a-fre 4+ tire and jerry can/cooler carrier. It's a real nice piece and would have been my bumper of choice if I was to buy one.

very nice 40. Congrads. Where is the rust?

None or at least I hope so :D. But seriously it is literally rust free. There is a small spot of scale on the rear gusset/crossmember/bumper. Nothing major and should be fairly easy to clean and treat without pulling the tub.

Wow, that's nice

Curious on ballpark of what you paid if you don't mind. Less than 10K?

Yep less than 10k, but I didn't steal it ;).

Thanks for the comments!! I've been wanting one of these for a long time (or so it seems) and hope to keep this one for the forseable future and enjoy it. Can't wait to get the doors and hard top painted to see how it looks.

I wasn't a huge fan of non-stock colors but really do like this green. It's a Jaguar green paint code and definitely stands out. Can't wait to see how the white top looks againts the green :bounce:.
