Removed the down pipe and wrapped with Thermo Tech Generation II Copper Exhaust Wrap.

Project Snowball sure lived up to its name tonight. Worked on finishing the exhaust with @boots4. Mocked up exhaust pipe.
1922875

Wrapped the pipe from the turbo to the muffler with Thermo Tec copper exhaust wrap.
1922878

Ready for the muffler to be installed.
1922879

Looked out the shop door and it started dumping heavy snow.
1922877

Took the opportunity for some photos.

Got just over an inch and took Snowball out for a drive down the road and onto the highway and back to make some fresh tracks.

shovel aversion syndrome.
Oh is that what it’s called? I shoveled far more snow that I liked last Monday. Dug out not only the end of my drive but both my neighbors on either side. We live on 66 so get plowed in pretty quick. Back yard measured 14” and the front was a bit less but that stuff from the plows easily adds weight and depth.

And are you liking that v band? How many did you attach? I’m thinking one before the muffler and one after. I’ve yet to order them. Wish I had somewhere local I could just walk into tho! That would be sweet.
Your truck really looks nice. I’ve never been much of a white vehicle person but I dig yours. Been fun updating myself this AM on your build.
Great sledding hills too. GL to your brother, Missoula is a great place. I was there years ago and really enjoyed it.

Wouldn’t wrapping (tho you painted) increase the pipe collecting dirt and salt esp since you wrapped all the way to the muffler right?
The wrap has an overspray coating to help seal it better. I only wrapped the downpipe in the engine bay and the horizontal run between transmission/ transfer case and fuel lines/ frame to protect them from exhaust heat. Did not wrap the muffler or any further down the pipe. Debris definitely could build up on the pipe and a wrapped pipe.

With it snowing last night and eager to drive it in the snow I forgot to take additional exhaust pictures. I installed 3” Marmen flanges, not V-bands.

Installed one at the turbo, end of the down pipe, front and back of muffler to the tail pipe. These marmen flanges are awesome.

Thanks... it been a “Work in Progress” 🤣
I didn’t really care for white... well more kaki I guess. It’s definetly grown on me.
It’s awesome the his girlfriend 10 acres in Montana. Really excited to take the 60 up and see him. I love Montana, mountains and rivers, fly fishing there is awesome.
Thanks for following the fun here Felicity.

fly fishing
I have photos of my friend fly fishing on the river from the movie ‘where a river runs through it.’ Pretty freaking gorgeous. Bright yellow line captured in the air above his head. Back then I had a pretty sweet old Minolta w/ a huge zoom lens. Love those old memories and days of photos actually on paper.

Probably the Gallatin. Those rivers out there are pretty special. Nothing like capturing moments like that on film!!

I’ve always felt connected to that movie. I’m like Norm and am the older brother. My bro Casey is Paul. I’ve had my head on straight since a kid, my bro... well not so much. Our mom had a car crash in 2003. They lady that her was drunk and died. My mom had physical problems but more significant was her developing mental illness that hit during 2009 stemming from the airbag and trauma to her brain. Long story short, my brother took a lot of the grief and almost lost himself during the ordeal. Really blessed he found a great women who lives in a great place, coincidentally Missoula, MT.

If I can put my hands on the one I’m thinking of I will.

That’s what’s awesome about your own build thread. Not just a build but a life story too.
Most of us will never meet face to face so it’s great to have a back story and what’s happening in life. That’s what I see a lot in your build thread Felicity.

Time to organize the cargo area inside of the 60

Rear brake pads
1923346

Put on the new fuel sticker
1923344

Installed the hood rod holder
1923350

And installed a rubber grommet for the hood rod support.

Knocking down the nitty gritty details. Be nice not to have my hood rod rattling.

Was getting oil splatters in the engine bay and saw it was getting flung around by the belt. The leak was coming from the front timing cover. Removed the belt and pulleys.
1923741

Removed the front timing cover to find a bad front main seal.
1923739

Got the timing cover gasket kit with front seal earlier this week and found it’s not the right size.:bang:
1923744

Part number off the timing cover gasket.

Front main seal

Also had time yesterday to clean up wiring and protect hoses in rub locations with this wire protection wrap.

So much cleaner than wiring nightmare of the 2F motor setup.

If you haven't done a front main seal on a cummins before here are some tips:

Use the metal driver ring included to pound on and set the seal depth in the gear cover. Leave the plastic inner collar in the seal and use it as a guide to slide the cover with seal onto the crankshaft, then pull out the plastic collar once the seal is on the crankshaft surface. Make sure the crankshaft surface is clean of all oil and dry when installing. The main seal should not be lubricated for install, it goes on dry.

Seeing the folded lip on the seal you pulled out I bet that plastic collar probably wasn't used to keep the seal expanded to go over the crankshaft surface which is probably why it folded.
