While working on exhaust flange to turbo, cut the tack weld on the waste gate flapper. Opened it up to see the wastegate is fully welded closed on HX-30.

Finally got Offroad in my dads field after some exhaust work. Took it for another spin down the road and it’s absolutely awesome. Need new tags but is insured. Mike and I went to get out on the highway earlier today and it looked like the hood wasn’t closed all the way so I stopped at the stop sign as he checked the hood and a State Trooper passes by. Got out on the highway and got it up to highway speed. Very comfortable ride and love the diesel. Now little nitty gritty to work on. Have wastegate pictures and I’ll post later. What an awesome project and a great time with Mike. Really looking forward to camp trips together and wheeling with some others on MUD.
The 4BT and SOA go together like PBJ!

@Hojack! My man... Looks siiiiick! My dream rig. Love the 4 Plus bumper. Stance is perfect. Great job. Ran thru 90% of the thread last night. Great read. Hope to see this in person some day.
Seems to be all coming together now. Been an awesome project, looking forward to some fun, both driving to work and Offroad.

When working on the down pipe to turbo decided to free up the tack welded closed wastegate done by my buddy Jeremy.

Freed it up to find the wastegate was fully welded closed by his buddy KC.

Both Jeremy and KC said there’s no need for the wastegate on my setup. This was the same turbo that came on the stepvan. I agreed with Mike to open it up and install an actuator in the future. Drilled out the weld plug and cleaned up with drellel tool.

In the meantime used bare copper wire and tied it on the outside part of the wastegate to keep it closed.

I talked to Speedhut today about their gauges. They are running a 15% sale through the end of the month. With the speedo gauge I can also have a fuel level. Four the quad gauge location I could have oil psi, volts, water temp and boost. For the center location have EGT. For the tach just get a Tiny Tach like @boots4 and @GLTHFJ60 run on their setup. They have a 30 and 60 psi boost gauge. Any idea what range with the HX-30 turbo I’ll be running, 20-30psi.

30 psi gauge should be enough for one turbo

How long can you sustain 38 psi for?

38psi with a single turbo is way off the map, running hotter EGT than I should, for a short duration. Point is, you can get higher than 30psi with a single turbo, but that doesn't mean you should. Go with the 60psi gauge.
