Chris and I are super bummed for the folks that didn't make the initial registration. We're seeing a lot of familiar names that missed out this year. It's March though and July is a long ways off. We ALWAYS have waitlist spots available. This is the only downside to the event. We don't like turning people away. If you've met us, we're pretty laid back and welcoming dudes, we're not trying to exclude anyone.
Kendall Mountain isn't huge and we were truly at capacity last year. We'd really like to make HIHX a complete blowout next year and we're looking at ways to fit more people at the event, but it's not going to be easy and we do not want to lose the feel of what this event is. HIH will never be a 200+ vehicle event. It's just not what we want. We've talked about hosting other HIH events in different areas and that's still on the table, but Chris and I are just two buddies with the help of a few great folks trying to put on a small event. We're a registered non-profit with the State of Colorado and we donate leftover monies to local causes. This isn't a business and we're not event coordinators. The next three months for us is tons of coordination, phone calls, a trip to Silverton, paperwork, logistics, t-shirt designs, food, sponsors, swag, permits, insurance, trails, etc. Until last year, we were literally doing everything by hand between the two of us. No joke. We've made mistakes along the way and we try to get better every year.
I know the registration part sucks. Don't fret. Stay on the waitlist. Spots always open up and we always look at ways to fit more folks in. The list goes from the top to the bottom. Not everyone is going to make it, that's just the reality of it. Just a few years ago, we maxed at 40 trucks and it took two days to fill. HIH6, 7 and 8 exploded. We never expected to be in a position to turn folks away. It goes against everything that Chris and I are about. When you come through the registration line at HIH, Chris and I will be there to welcome you to HIH. We'll have tongs in hand on BBQ night dishing out brisket and pork personally and we do not eat until every member in attendance has gotten a plate of food.
It's important to us that everyone, regardless of age, feels welcome, safe and happy at HIH. We take that part seriously and a lot of time and energy goes into making sure we're successful. We wish we had something better to say to those that missed out. We truly hate this part of it.
