Where’s everyone staying the days leading up to the event? Doesn’t look like much is available. I’m thinking of staying in Durango....

I'm coming from the other direction, but last year I ran up Medano Pass coming out of Great Sand Dunes NP and camped out there a few days, then spent a day exploring around, and stayed in Durango and hit up Mesa Verde NP before HIH8 started. I didn't really have much of a plan going out there, just kinda flew by the seat of my pants. Didn't book anything in advance, just got online and found a hotel when I needed one. Hotels in the Mesa Verde and Durango area were fairly close to filled up and I ended up paying more than I really was planning. This year I'll probably be a little more on a schedule as I wont have as much time off work and I'll be trying to camp every night to keep costs down.

I'll go wheeling with you. @Workhorse

I haven't been to the HIH event, but been to Ouray area the last two years. Definitely worth the trip. I'm sure myself and family will go to Ouray again this summer and I wouldn't mind meeting up with some 100s that didn't get in the event. Shamefully, I've never really taken my LX offroad, I usually take a 4runner.

Waiisted because paypal screwed up and the page refreshed entering payment info. Great.

If anybody is game to set up another trail ride for all of us that are missing out please message me. I've been waiting on this for 2 years and just wanted to do something with other 100 series folks so I wouldnt be so nervous about going up there.

Bummer seeing all of the comments again this year about people getting wait listed within seconds of registration opening. Never been, tried to register last year but didn't get in, and to be honest I was so shell shocked over it that I didn't even try this year. I really wonder what the admittance rate is for those that are not vendors or insiders. The 100 series community is growing, sad to see that this event is not keeping up. Very thankful that an event like this exists, but it may be time for someone else to start another event that is relevant to the community.

LOL...If @bluecruiser and @paflytyer had "insiders" or favorites...then I wouldn't have had to hit refresh like a mad man when the timer hit zero...

Chris and I are super bummed for the folks that didn't make the initial registration. We're seeing a lot of familiar names that missed out this year. It's March though and July is a long ways off. We ALWAYS have waitlist spots available. This is the only downside to the event. We don't like turning people away. If you've met us, we're pretty laid back and welcoming dudes, we're not trying to exclude anyone.

Kendall Mountain isn't huge and we were truly at capacity last year. We'd really like to make HIHX a complete blowout next year and we're looking at ways to fit more people at the event, but it's not going to be easy and we do not want to lose the feel of what this event is. HIH will never be a 200+ vehicle event. It's just not what we want. We've talked about hosting other HIH events in different areas and that's still on the table, but Chris and I are just two buddies with the help of a few great folks trying to put on a small event. We're a registered non-profit with the State of Colorado and we donate leftover monies to local causes. This isn't a business and we're not event coordinators. The next three months for us is tons of coordination, phone calls, a trip to Silverton, paperwork, logistics, t-shirt designs, food, sponsors, swag, permits, insurance, trails, etc. Until last year, we were literally doing everything by hand between the two of us. No joke. We've made mistakes along the way and we try to get better every year.

I know the registration part sucks. Don't fret. Stay on the waitlist. Spots always open up and we always look at ways to fit more folks in. The list goes from the top to the bottom. Not everyone is going to make it, that's just the reality of it. Just a few years ago, we maxed at 40 trucks and it took two days to fill. HIH6, 7 and 8 exploded. We never expected to be in a position to turn folks away. It goes against everything that Chris and I are about. When you come through the registration line at HIH, Chris and I will be there to welcome you to HIH. We'll have tongs in hand on BBQ night dishing out brisket and pork personally and we do not eat until every member in attendance has gotten a plate of food.

It's important to us that everyone, regardless of age, feels welcome, safe and happy at HIH. We take that part seriously and a lot of time and energy goes into making sure we're successful. We wish we had something better to say to those that missed out. We truly hate this part of it.

this is where I got hosed and sent to the waitlist.... @bluecruiser is there a pending sale somewhere stuck?

It's amazing how well this goes off because of you guys. It shows how great of an event it is when it sells out in less than 15 minutes. This singular event is the reason why I love my 100 series so much...well beyond how awesome the truck is. @paflytyer and @bluecruiser you guys know that with all of these sign ups, you can bet most of us will have our hands up for any kind help you guys need. I will be solo this year and I am just happy to be there that I will gladly fill my truck with anyone who didn't get a spot. I will also gladly volunteer to do anything that you guys need! There has been a group of us @CreasyBear @atnolan94 @DirtDawg @LonghornLX @mattafact have been group texting all year about this. We all made it in...and we all will be eating Wal-Mart steaks and drinking beer at the cool kids section! Everyone is invited!

I'm pretty excited to meet more from this community! my family is a total Toyota family with a lifelong history of Toyota and off roading, camping, exploring. My home is here in Canon City, Co and I also have a bueatiful camping community in Dewese Co, right next to Lake Deweese. I open it to any travelers that may want a place to pit stop on their way through We have camp spots, facilities, and peace and quite.... last year I tried to link up with some of the group to go over Medano Pass but things just didn't pan out and I wasn't attending the event. hopefully I can prioritize my short list of "necessary" "repairs" done by the time! Cant wait to meet all of you, and will have my wife and 8,7, and 3 year old, as well as my fly fishing gear... thank you all for what you do, I also think maybe a second event throughout the year would be possible with the amount of support and response people have provided!

Was driving a bunch of HS kids home from indoor track nationals in NYC and it was my turn to drive. Was somewhere west of Cleveland on way back to Michigan. Gave my phone to another coach that was with me and told him to do his best. He got me registered right away. Google auto fill was awesome. This will be our first time. Hopefully the wife can get the time off or else I'm bringing my buddy and his 2 kids along with me and my 2 kids. Really excited.

Your sentiment makes me feel a little sick. Sucks that your wired to think that way and then puked it out onto the organizers and participants.

Maybe you can go organize your own event and see how easy it is.

As popular as HIH is getting and how quickly it fills up, it's obvious that there are enough 100-series owners around the country that other events would be well attended. Now the community just needs people willing to host/organize events in their part of the country. Stan and Chris are really cool guys that started this thing 9 years ago as just an idea and a gathering of friends. By the third year I had heard about it and was able to attend. The changes and growth the event has seen in only a few short years is astounding. As the 100-series ages and vehicles get cheaper, the population of owners who actually want to wheel their junk will get bigger.

FWIW, I've been a trail leader the past 2 years and I still have to register just like everyone else, and pay the same $250 as everyone else. The only perk I get is a fancy magnet to put on my vehicle that identifies me as a trail leader. And I'm happy to do it. My wife and daughter have been talking about it since we left last summer and would have been quite disappointed if we'd missed out.

I kinda still view the event as a bunch of us crashing Stan and Chris's weekend wheeling trip. They're obligated to nothing and just so happen to be willing and able to coordinate 100+ strangers converging on the same campsite and trails. Anyone else could setup a similar event - but they don't.

As a previous and current sponsoring vendor for the event I can assure you I'm frantically sitting at my PC at registration time just like everyone else. :)
