In the works

That would be awesome! I'm headed over that way from HIH9 via the Rim Rocker. Going to do the White Rim Trail and visit Arches before heading back home to Austin.

that's not 100 series specific.

The Rising Sun crew is a good group of people. I went on several trail runs last year with them and I will also be going to CM this year. I am looking forward to it. I have never been to Moab before.

The Rim Rocker trail is supposed to be really awesome. I am planning to run it this year at some point.

I hit up Arches last year after HIH8. Awesome park. I'm sure you are used to it being from Texas, but watch out, it was freaking BLAZING hot! Truck said 117 degrees outside and I don't doubt it one bit. I was still dead set on hiking what I could since it was my first time in that area and I didn't want to waste it. Even though I drank I don't know how many gallons of water, I still overdid it in the heat. Probably didn't help being in 60 degree weather up in the mountains for a week and then going straight into the desert mid-july lol. Got some mild to moderate heat exhaustion issues and made for a pretty crappy drive all the way back to Indiana. I had planned on visiting Canyonlands the next day, but felt so crappy and it was still so hot I threw in the towel and started back home. I was pretty bummed. Utah looked freaking awesome, the little bit of it I got a chance to see!

Moab is brutal in the summer. Cruise Moab happens at the perfect time of year with just about perfect temps. I've been twice and it was..... perfect.

For those of you that didn't make it in to HIH9, consider attending other events around the country. A few I know about but haven't attended: Great Smokey Mountain Trail Ride, Lone Star Landcruiser Roundup, Black Hills Cruiser Classic, Rubithon, Surf 'n' Turf. As far as I know these are all TLCA sanctioned events and I've been pleased with the ones I've attended (even though HIH is the best)

Thank you I was super afraid of other events until I saw your post. Now I am a changed man and not scared of these other option anymore.
Just kidding.🤣

Thank you for suggesting these options. I didn't know about most of them and some are even closer to me than Colorado!

If you're not already a TLCA member...… becoming one opens a slew of great events. Some do not require TLCA membership, but with the great magazine you get, who wouldn't want to join? ;)

We'll I'm on the wait list, hoping to be able to make my first HIH. And I just convinced myself to upgrade my tires & to get sliders, so I won't hesitate next time.

I don’t see myself on the map but I’ll be representing South Georgia :)

A couple of those circles look mighty close to Charleston, SC; if anyone is coming from the low country and willing to mule some beer let me know.

I lived in CHS for 10 years prior to moving to CO. Would love to get my hands on some old favorites as well as some of the new stuff that has popped up in the years since we left.

Sydney the Aussie Rescue Pup is thrilled to return to the mountains again. I'll be up there starting on the 23rd. If anyone else is up there early, I'll be heading up various gulches (Maggie, Minnie, Eureka, Porphyry) as well as Kendall Mountain and you're welcome to join. Those aren't typically part of the trails HIH runs, but they are fantastic. Several Mudders last year went with me and we had a blast. Maggie Gulch is particularly cool because all of the original mineworks are still in place. Most of the mine had their equipment removed a LONG time ago. Not Maggie though.

Whats the difficulty levels of these out of curiosity?

Maggie, Minnie and Eureka are SUPER easy for even stock rigs. They have some light scree sections, but no serious rocks or shelf roads (except one very short section on Maggie). They are GREAT "getting your feet wet" trails that prepare you for all the other San Juan trails. All 3 are a straight shot up 2/Animas Forks Road from Silverton, so very, very easy to access and quick to get to. On a Porphyry is all shelf road and can be intimidating to someone who has never been on exposed shelf-road, but entirely do-able in a stock rig. It's a bit of a drive down 550 towards Red Mountain Pass. Kendall Mtn is definitely rougher. Can be done in a stock rig, but definitely rough. It's start is literally from where the HIH campgrounds are. Bonus for that one is that you can look down on town and the campground from roughly 12,700 ft.

Using my own scale 1-5 (1 being easiest), I'd rank them as follows:

Maggie/Minnie/Eureka = 1
Kendall Mtn = 3
Porpyry = 3

Black Bear = 3 (steps section and switchbacks more of a 5 because of view)
California = 2
Hurricane = 3
Corkscrew = 3
Cinnamon = 2
Engineer = 3
Imogene = 4
Clear Lake = 2
Stony Pass = 1
Placer/Picayune Gulches = 2
Ophir = 1 (scenic as heck, but actually very, VERY tame)
Super Secret = 1
Poughkeepsie = 5 (because of the Wall specifically, 3 generally)
Burns Gulch = 2

Some may disagree with my scoring, but for me, it's pretty accurate.

@geanes What makes Imogene a 4? I was hoping to do that this year (1st time) since we missed it last year.
