Do you ever suffer heat-related carburetor issues in your climate? It would seem very likely - but perhaps your gasoline is more suited for high temps than ours in the US.

Nice one! Had no idea the option existed.

Had my brakes done at the local dealer. Swapped out the front discs for new ones and change out the pads. Rear drums also got serviced.

Do you have the part numbers they used? They told me no stock for them and they can't get them anymore! I could get them from the US but it would suck to ship brake parts by air for maintenance purposes. Heavy parts!

I haven't noticed any difference. But I've only had it for a few weeks and I'm not sure if the PO had done any work on the carb.

What did you do for your altitude? I miss Colorado!

I bought an EFI FJ62. I may soon add fuel injection to my FJ40, as it simply usable on hot days, in spite of years of fiddling with the carb, fuel pumps, insulating fuel lines, etc.

I live in CO and my HAC still works great.

Although I feel kinda ripped off not having access to all these cool ROW Cruisers.

Agree. I would hate to be stopped in the middle of a trip because of a carb.

The 70 series is sweet. See it everywhere. No V8 Diesels available here on the 70. And I really hate the rear track width on them. Because of how they are setup from the factory, the rear and front tires track funny. Noticeable on dune driving.

Text update!

Cut the rear tailgate open to do a storage bin.

The hinges showed up today! So I'm planning to modify and fit for the flip window setup. If it works and seals good. I'll do it to the other side as well.

Also received the beautiful Headlight harness from @slcfj62 Erik is amazing! the harness and Aux block showed up well packaged and I can't wait to get cranking on the install. My factory sealed headlights really suck! I'm going to test the harness on them and see what difference they make. I'm sure it's day and night.

Also received the Cibie H4 headlights and Hella 60/55W Bulbs and 100/80W Bulbs. Going to test them out. Hopefully the brighter ones aren't too bad for incoming traffic.

While we were waiting. I got the front bumper out in preparation to make a winch plate. Thanks to @boozewz I'm going to use the same winch he did on his 62. But I plan to add cutouts for D-ring mounts. More on that later.

Still waiting on the snorkel and OME lift. You guys in the states are real lucky to not have to spend so much on shipping and playing the waiting game. I sure miss the brown truck!

Photo Bucket just seized my picture account! WTF!! They want me to pay 400 a year! that's crazy!

Are you guys able to see the pics in the beginning of this thread or should I upload them on a different site? This is really stupid.

Anyway, here are some recent pics

This is the panel almost done with the hinges attached

Here we are cutting up a logo for a custom winch bumper I designed that works with part of the factory bumper.

While I was waiting on parts, I took the time to go through the carb and do a complete rebuild. Lucky me, it needed a rebuild badly.

The fenders went back on. Got them painted flat black along with the grill.

We were hustling to get the truck done with a trip coming up and I really wanted to use it. Took care of the loose ends. Got the dual batteries wired up and my gear in the truck. Finally, after 35 days of wrenching, Rafiki is ready to roll. Well, sort of any way.

Here it is with 0 lift and 255s

Side shot of the truck with the panel installed. excuse the silly paint on the panel. My powder coater was closed for the holiday.

Some 300km on our 2000+km trip, we stopped for gas and snacks. As you can see, my 62 looks tiny next to the Power Wagon.

1000km later we arrive southwest of the kingdom and about 2000m higher in altitude.

Love how low it is. It sucks on bumps though. With all the new weight up front and in the rear, it keeps bottoming out.

I've installed 2 Odyssey batteries with the IBS system. However, I've been having issues with my batteries draining. I've checked all wiring, and my wiring is all good. I suspect the alternator can't supply enough juice to keep the batteries happy. I'm running 2 fridges and a lot of accessories. The alternator is pushing out 55AMPs. Need to go up to 100 at least. and switch over to an internal voltage regulator. Anyone done this?

Shortly after getting back, Rafiki gets a 2" OME lift.

You really don't know your vehicle well until you drive it for a distance. Any 3F owners care to share their fuel millage with us? I can barely get 320km out of the tank at a constant 120km/h.

I'm looking for a steel sunroof seal/gasket for the FJ62. if anyone know where I could get one please let me know.

Haven't posted an update on the build in a while.

This is what i've done in the last 4 weeks.

Removed the center console in favor of a fridge/freezer. The Waeco CDF-11 was what I decided on. It has cup holders built in.

So I fabricated a base bracket and hard wired it in.

36480563955_5e555f855e_o.jpg

In the above picture, the lid was removed to try out an experiment. I have android wireless chargers everywhere and wanted to try to integrate the charger into the lid. And so, the new fridge was taken apart. Removed the lid and took it apart. Also took apart the wireless charger.

35672140213_1103026f8e_o.jpg

The charger has a fan to cool it down. And the lid has foam to keep things inside the fridge cool. But I knew I wouldn't run the fridge all the time, and with our hot weather climate, it just didn't make any sense to not address the ventilation. The lid is constructed of two shells sandwiching foam in the middle. All I did was make room for the charger. And also create a passage for air to ventilate if the fan kicks on. This could be a dangerous and hazardous attempt, but i'm being optimistic and I think I may pull it off. The charger will get hot while charging the phone. Will it get too hot? I'll have to test that out.

36480589855_31fe6c5eff_o.jpg

After that, I wanted to address the fuel consumption issue. the 3F properly calibrated goes through fuel like no tomorrow. I couldn't stand the range i'm getting from it. So making a fuel tank was next inline. Expecting 210L+ out of this replacement tank. The fuel tank is only a patch till I diesel swap the truck. I should also apologize for the dirty work shop. We are expanding our facility and making changes. Ignore the mess if you could.

If you live or adventure in the desert a lot, you know that lots of water is critical to have. The tank you see below is taking the shape of the floor and leveled with the cargo area. The tank can be removed using existing factory bolts and the factory rear seat can be reinstalled.
The tank is made out of stainless-steel.

Barriers were added inside. This is one of the templates used.

Top left connection is a breather hose for the tank, that's hiding behind the B-pillar and raised up.
The middle fitting with clear hose is my water gauge. I can see how much water is left in the tank through this hose.
Bottom right is my low pressure (gravity feed) water tap. This will connect to a hose that can be pulled outside the vehicle for cleaning or washing anything.

36343215281_5168879e8a_o.jpg

Here is the passenger side. There are two taps here. One serves low pressure (gravity feed) and the other is connected to a pump that can be used for showers and also forcing water to the rear of the truck and just under the rear bumper.
The 3" cap you see up top is where I fill the water in the tank. I have one on each side and is next to the rear doors for quick access.

The water tank was designed in purpose to be flat with the cargo area so I can sleep inside the truck when we have bad weather.

Here are the door panels cut into stainless steel. I'm converting the rears to manual window.

Next up was addressing cruise control. I have a trip planned beginning of September. 5,000km+ round trip. So cruise control is a must.

Last but not least, this guy showed up.

It fits great! and looks perfect.

For those of you running the Speedhut gauges, how did you calibrate the Oil pressure? I can't seem to find a way to calibrate it and it's always reading 100PSI?!?

Roof rack and drawer system are up next.

That's a fantastic job you've done. Thank you for documenting so well. I've owned many Land Cruisers but never a 60 or 62. I think it might be next on my list.

It's been a while since I updated this thread.

The cruiser is alive and well.

Just completed a 4000km round camping trip north west of saudi.

The 3F started struggling 200km in. Surging and hesitating it's way across. In most cases, the best speed I could was 65km/h. Lost an alternator belt and the distributor crapped out half way. But, parts were easy to find and it took about 2 hours to get it back up and running.

The carb needs a tune up but instead of fixing it. I have a 1HD-FT diesel engine that will be going in. Also doing a Gturbo upgrade at the same time with a top mount inter-cooler.

Weighed the truck on my way back on this trip.

The front is at 930kg. Rear is at 1730kg. That's with 2 people, 150L of water, 160L of fuel and gear. Not sure how I could shift weight up front. The engine will be heavier than the 3F so that should help a little with weight distribution.

Just recived my Recaro seats as well. Going to get pics of these as soon as I install them. They look really nice but my dealer only had them in leather. So I plan to throw on some seat covers.

Pics to follow
