Did you sandblast the bottom of your body before the Rustbullit?
Looks real good man.

Yeah, I sure did. . . and what a PIA that was!! Nothing like blasting overhead! :D

Thanks for the compliment!

Just read your thread and all i can say is udaman!! Very nice work. I think ur more anal than me...lol. I however, do not own the skills you have. Very nice, look forward to seeing more!

Thanks, man. I admit, I'm probably spending way too much time working on the areas that NOBODY will ever see. But, it just feels good to know it's done right and IF someone ever did look they wouldn't be able to tell!!

OMFG.... you have a great shop and a great project. i am very encouraged to start this myself. However, the lift would be the key as well as having that shop!! Having a shop like that must ignite alot of your inspiration for this project. C'mon.... I would be in there 24/7
Nice thread and great story and photos.

Thanks! I love being able to have the shop; it definitely makes it handy. And while I spend a ton of time out there I wouldn't say I'm out there 24/7; I can't convince Toyota to keep sending me a paycheck without showing up for work!!:D

Alright Fellas! Time for a much overdue update. My right rear 1/4 finally arrived via Greyhound (after much prodding of my buddy in AZ). This thing is SWEET ;); no rust at all, not even surface rust. Beautiful!

So, today I finished welding in my LR inner fender patch. After tacked in:

I also pulled the 1/4 skin of the replacement 1/4 today:

It's almost wrong how clean this thing is!:

Pic of the old and new 1/4's; just to jog everyone's memory:

Next step was to start the "reconstructive surgery"; my old inner 1/4 and floor was so s***ty and full of rust. Here are some pics of my progress. Wheel well out:

Pic of rusted out floor around body mount bolt access hole; can't explain how this rusted? The crossmember is rust free inside. . .

Check it!! Not much left of the donor 1/4!! :D

I decided to pull the entire inner panel as it was so clean and straight (and to minimize welding):

Compare to the current one:

Let me know what you guys think!:beer:

Good grief, you are a surgeon. This has to be the fun part of the hobby for you, right?:hillbilly:
I would of given up and found a southwest body long ago!
Keep up the great work.

ps- what is that project going on next to the Cruiser? An old 60's Chevy pickup?

Tuned in, turned on and taking notes!! You just switched my purchase plans from a scissor hoist to a "real" hoist. You do amazing work! Are you seriously using a vice to make your bends, or do you have a hidden box pan brake?! I'm finishing up my garage now (insulating for the winter!) and then in rolls the FJ40. Once it's done, it rolls out and in comes the BJ60! I hope I can do a job half as good as yours!!

NICE!!

Come on man, this old turd still has plenty of life in her!! The way I look at it, if I save this one, that's 1 extra southwest body for someone else, right?

Good eye! '66 Chevy C10. My granddad bought it new in '66, my mom learned to drive in it, and it was my first vehicle. It's next on the list after I finish the FJ60.

Thanks!! Yeah, you can't beat having a two post. With the sidejobs I've done in the past year alone it has paid for itself 2x over.

Yup, all the bends are coming out of the vice if under 5", if over 5" I clamp up a piece of angle to my welding table and bend with a block of wood. Ghetto, I know. Saddest thing is that I have all the materials sitting in the corner of the shop for making a 58" brake!! Too many projects, not enough time!

Yo bro, my brother in law bought a running 66(i'm 99% sure of the year) GMC version in great shape (kept in a barn) a couple years ago and it has sat ever since.
He would probably sell it as he has moved to Ohio and now has 7 kids.

SUNDAY UPDATE!

Kept plugging away at the 1/4 today. Here are a few pics of my progress:

1. Test fitting, aligning to the marks I made prior to removing the old panel:

Picture%20538.jpg

2. Tacking the panel in position; everything goes back together in the reverse order of how it was pulled off:

Picture%20539.jpg

3. Tacking in the floor patch, after getting it flushed in and fitting just right:

Picture%20540.jpg

4. Both panels welded in:

Picture%20541.jpg

5. I was on a roll and forgot to take a pic of the floor after final welding it in. Here's a pic after smoothing the welds. All I can say is, WHAT PATCH?? ;)

Picture%20543.jpg

I ran by the welding supply shop and picked up another can of cold galv. Like I said, what patch?

Picture%20546.jpg

Stared working on the rest of the quarter. Got the outer brace welded in and flushed out:

Picture%20544.jpg

Started welding in the inner wheel well section; it's amazing how close the 2 stamping are; excellent manufacturing capability for an 80's vehicle:

Picture%20549.jpg

Test fitting the inner wheel well:

It's coming along nicely, Friday it looked like this:

and today we're here, so good progress:

Cruisers look-n killer! I know you've heard it before but your shop is killer too!

Finished flushing in the welds on the RR 1/4:

Hard to see in this photo, but I also got the entire floor sanded, ready for bedliner now:

And, a couple teaser pics:

I couldn't be happier with the fitment of the RR 1/4 skin. I still have some dent and flange repair to do on the LR 1/4 to make it perfect.

Let me know what you guys think!
