I almost prefer the look w/o the carpet! :hillbilly:

I'm sure it looks WAY  in real life though!

Coming along VERY nicely!!

I bet you could make it fit perfect with a heat gun.

Good call, I'll have to use one when I do the final install (probably a couple months out still). I just wanted to test fit it to be sure it was for the right vehicle, no tears, etc. Now I'm going to pull it back out so it doesn't get ruined while I'm doing the body work & paint.

I'm going to see if I can sneak it in the house to keep it clean . . . wonder if my wife will notice ;)

Yeah, it looks cool as hell with no carpet. I'm just afraid it will be too noisy/hot. I had my CJ7 bedlined like that and it was way too utilitarian for an everyday driver.

OH damn I got to get to work

That is awesome and so what I am doing as well. Love the look of the interior and I agree the carpet just covers up your artistic interior. Great job and thanks for the tinting tip. LOL Doc:) See I never saw a new FJ-60 bed that looked that good.

I'm happy to announce, it's finished!! I hung the doors today and took her for a test drive. I decided there's really no need for any of the other creature comforts (paint, interior, a/c, brakes, etc.). . . ;)

Just kidding, the drama continues. Hung the doors today. And while they are 100% rust free, they are no where near dent free:

Looks like I'll get plenty of practice with dent repair. . .

Right front (2nd worst):

Right rear (by far the worst):

Wish me luck. . . .

WOW! I can't wait to see the finished product!

Dam! That thing is going to be showroom, the floor looks great.
I will be using panel guard on mine , i hope it turns out as good as yours.

Got more done on the 60 this weekend. I got the drivers door sanded, there are only a few dings that will need attention (areas that still have blue paint):

I got all of 20 the holes welded up in the roof (from the janky roof rack the PO installed):

Managed to melt the headliner in one place doing this :censor::censor: guess it gives me a reason to replace it. . . mine was pretty grimy anyhow (that's me trying to justify it to myself).

Continued sanding. . . this has got to be the worst part of the project. Drivers side is getting there:

I've changed my mind on how to approach welding in the 1/4 skins. I think I am going to work on getting the doors lined out and hung properly, then weld the 1/4's in. This should ensure that they line up properly.

So based on the preliminary install, you would give a thumbs up on the front carpet kit from these guys?

Yeah, honestly I would. But there are 2 things to consider 1) I'm not afraid to have to modify/work for the perfect fit & 2)I'm a cheap bastid. . . ;). There's just no way I could justify paying $500+ for a carpet kit. I do like the fact that it comes with jute backing, and is pretty well cut to fit. As long as you are okay with not having a molded carpet, I think this would work (I think it looks more era correct, anyhow).

Looks awesome! Wish mine was that far along!

How are you sanding the doors? DA? hand? flap disc?

I'm using a DA with 80 grit. Admittedly, not the fastest. But by keeping the DA flat against the surface it allows me to easilty identify all my dents and dings for later repair. I don't have a well enough trained hand to find the smallest dings yet, so if I used a flapper I'd have to go back and spray a guide coat and then sand with a sanding block (which I may do for the 2 worst doors).

Man, this things lookin' sweeeet!! Talk about dedication and love for a rig, you gotta love em' to spend this much time/money on em' :D:cheers::clap::beer::beer:. I'm getting ready to durabak my interior this weekend, where did you end up getting your schutz gun?

I'm about to purchase my first Land Cruiser. Any suggestions about where to look on the body for trouble spots when looking it over (rust wise).

Hmm. . .from my experience:

-Quarter panels
-Inner quarters (floor area)
-Rear wheel wells
-Rear seat belt gusset area
-Rear floor
-Core support
-Door seams
-Tailgate seams

Other places I've heard of problems:

-Rear doglegs
-Cowl area
-A-Pillar's
-Roof rails
-Rear hatch

Basically, everywhere! Just take a magnet with you and take your time going over it with a fine tooth comb. . .

I ended up buying mine off of a guy on eBay; his store is called 'bodyshopsupplies' and it cost $15.

Kept working on sanding the doors down tonight. I got the majority of the passenger rear done, but had to try my hand at repairing one of the dents in the top of the door. Here is a before picture of the RR door; note the long creased dent in the top middle of the door:

After a little dolly work and a couple passes with the shrinking disc. This is my first go at doing any body work like this, but it's turned out really well & seems like it won't be too difficult (knock on wood):

Nice work
