Since the spare mount performed so well in the roll and with an aversion to exterior mounted, figured I'd swap it over.

Well, there's not only no third row, but no provisions for anchoring either, so kinda in a quadary as to method to securely attach to the floor.

Don't want to overthink it, but don't want to get kilt by a spare neither.

Uncovered MORE speaker wire....

Can see where third row attachment would be....

Drill holes and through bolt with 1" thick ass fender washers on the bottom of floor?

Or over engineer and weld plate, like I'm assuming the third row would've had?

Where did you get this truck? I thought they all had 3rd row in the US. lol. I wouldn't trust fender washers with your track record :flipoff2: You could take the middle ground and just make maybe 3"x3" plates to bolt through that sit under the floor.

I know, right?

I thought they all had 3rd row in the US. lol.

The first time I bought, I text seller within thirty minutes of the ad posting, so he said, and the pics started coming through.

Saw solid cargo glass and matching tint.....

Saw no third row in a following pic....

Then, saw cloth interior and I immediately called.

Asked about history and that's when the incorrect was told, then asked if it had a sunroof.

He said "no, sorry it doesn't"

I said "I'll take it......pending Carfax"

That's was in July, at a price much higher than purchased, because she's a checkered past.

Slow and low, that is the tempo...

Guess I'll crawl under the 450 to see what Mr. T did, 'cause 3x3 plates sound a little janky.

Thinking about it, the base didn't impact the floor area's accommodations for the third row seats, but there were holes in the 450s floor, 'cause I just bolted this up and the hooks stayed put.

3"x3" plates sound janky, but 1" fender washers don't? ;) lol. Plates are usually what they bolt roll cages too. I don't remember what tire carrier you have. If it is Slee's than you have to drill holes no matter what.

Man , no third row , no sunroof , you are so lucky ... !!! I wanna get rid of my sunroof (spring project)

Touché.

Jonseys, now Duisers, but carrier is NLA, anyway.

Krawler busted the rear bead in the roll, I'm guessing, but stayed put, so a solid mount as tested. :)

Have been pondering using the OE carrier and saving the space in the back, this morning.

Rotate every 5k, so not like it's going to deteriorate more than others.

What's the point of trying to save space with a sub box, to only impede upon, arguably unnecessarily, since won't be hanging up on tire in the mall lot?

315 even fit in OE location?

Guess I'll search.

You'd be amazed at the increase in leg/headroom without sunroof or power seats.

I'm becoming more and more smitten with her, even after I swore to myself I'd remain detached.

315 fits in Lexi but is tight. Receiver hitch won't work.

It this truck is going to be your around town truck and you are talking about stock height and maybe 33" tires. I would stay with the stock mount. Save the room, less deterioration than putting it on the bumper in direct sunlight, and you have as much cargo room as possible.

Stock spare location that is.

Gracias.

Guess I'll have a hitch to sell, too...

Kinda what I'm thinking.

Love the tire carrier and co2 tank mount construction, function, and obvious safety.....but it's only logical to keep it simple, considering.

Wish I'd have figured that out before pulling it from the LXs carcass...

Haha yeah that is how it usually goes.... You have an idea and then mull it over and after third and fourth thought maybe you would do it differently. But this is a lot better time to figure that out than after you have drilled holes. ;)

No doubt..... or welded them up...

Intentions were to deflare, completing the poverty pack motif, 'cause I've never been a huge fan of anything that makes a big girl look bigger, get LT to whip up a set of cat covered sliders without the tube.

Kinda uncertain on that, now, too.

Don't know about the tubeless sliders , but you should definitely deflare .\m/

Nice to see a fellow Oklahoman picked up this rare rig. I miss seeing it on my daily local Craigslist searches. Looking forward to seeing what you do with her.

There is a "stock spare tire location mod" that tucks the tire/wheel up tighter...by lowering the stock mechanism, I believe. Popular subject back when a good, used 80 was in the $30K range and not so commonly built.

Hmmm lets see?

80 - capable mall crawler close to stock but just cleaned up?
70 - wheeler
55 - resto/restomod
55 - wheeler?

Did I get those right? If so I wouldn't put sliders on. I wouldn't take the flares or side steps off, I would keep it in all of it's 80 series glory and use it as a pavement pounder. Go ahead and sound deaden the hell out of it, put in a nice stereo, screen with bluetooth and iPhone connectivity. Maybe have the paint sprayed where it might need it and paint corrected, a little tint and you are good to go. Oh and put your SC'r on it.

Yeah. Need to quit thinking about it and do it.

Me, too!

Always begin with the best intentions, but they typically spiral out of control...

Good info. Will be searching for, although I dunno if I'll drag on speed bumps, or not...

Decreasing anything that'll drag on the ass end of the 80 become ingrained, so hard to get out of that mindset.

I'm kinda glad it's only the spare that's a point of contention on this, otherwise, the ONLY way to fix it is sucking the rear cross up to the rear tire line, and cutting the body accordingly.

Hmmm lets see?

Pretty close......the '76 Pig is gonna split DD duties with this 80 and the FZJ73 is gonna be the dedicated rock donkey.

But, you forgot the LX450 drivetrain/chassis and that something is gonna grace Don's shop floor next fall, which may change the direction the '72 resto was headed.... I dunno yet.

My thought on sliders was door ding protection, but prolly unnecessary.....

Original plan was pull flares and rack, weld up the holes, deaden, then, with interior pulled, paint and body.

Prolly go back that direction, then tackle top end and other PM after, in preparation for SC.

Thinking the Alpine Carplay deck, new door/dash speakers and some kinda sub that'll minimally protrude beyond the rear quarter, but little ways to go before buying anything.

I have never liked the deflaring - and even after looking at so many deflared rigs here on MUD, I still don't like it
