i have found a 1979 fl40 front axle for 400 dollars is that a fair price and will the disk brakes work on my 72 fj40 front axle

You'll have to address proportioning front to rear and may need a bigger master.

If you use the complet diff hausing, you will need to swap the third member since 79 is 3:70 and you have 4:11

I already have 3.70s and a disk brake kit from jt outfitters I am just looking to upgrade

Bit field for sure but to be honest I am searching to make sure what all I will need

You know you need to grind a little inside the ball to fit larger birfield
It's a bad thing to figure this after you set up the knuckle with grease everywhere

almost easier to go thru the 79 axle and then swap it in place of the 72.

Knuckle swap is easier. The grinding is about 5 mins per side..
