Pretty good day. It made its first true road trip for lunch today. Still have work that needs to be done, but getting it out on the road gave the kid some motivation.

Got some filler on the patch for the roof, and installed the 4plus battery tray. Thanks again Dave @lcwizard.

Funny thing before we headed to lunch, I put a couple of gallons of liquid gold into it. While doing a walk around totally forgot the rear plate was still on the rear doors, hence why We returned and placed some zip ties on the spare tire carrier.

The velour upholstery is simply amazing.

Strong work with the kid vibes. Took my (12yo) boy out the other day for driving lessons. Trying to talk him into a 4 year project cruiser…

We’ll see

It’s far from good, but good from far.

Pretty happy with the way it turned out. Just glad that RV AC Unit is gone. Still need to work on the headliner side, but that will be later.

Looks like you are bypassing the heater loop with that red hose and it looks like it wants to kink--keep an eye on that.

Parts are on order to fix all that, that was temporary.

Cleans up pretty good. Still work to be done, but It will make its first trip to school on Monday.

His first knuckle job, only my second so it’s slow, but everything is going well. It has Warn Hubs which was different with no snap ring. It had a bolt in the axle holding a washer/plate. I’m assuming this is normal for this style hub. Thoughts?

That is what I've found on warn hubs.
Thank you I did some research and found the same. I’m debating going back to AISIN hubs, I’ll make my mind up when we get back to install. I need to look into the differences.

I find that the Aisins are a simpler design overall which to me can often mean better. Since my other rig was already outfitted with Aisins, I decided to unify with hubs that seemed to be more bulletproof.

It’s been a busy month, but we pushed through and got it back on its wheels today. This is what we did, Knuckle rebuild, drain and fill for the front diff, new aisin hubs, new rotors, new calipers, tie rod end replacements, new drag link, rebuilt the center arm, new steering stabilizer, new rubber brake lines, new hard brake lines on the driver side, and new turn signal housing lights from city racer.

The only real issue we ran into was I didn’t get the passenger side wheel seal seated correctly which prevented me from getting the snap ring installed on that side. That was frustrating till I took it apart and was looking at everything wondering what I did wrong. It didn’t look way out, but it was enough to not let that snap ring on.

Thanks to cruiser outfitters for assistance in the sourcing the correct aisin hubs. It had warn hubs when I started, and I went with the Aisin hubs for the rebuild.

Next up is a rear brake rebuild, and bushings for the spring hangers.

That’s awesome to be working on this with your son. Will be following along - just got my first ever Cruiser (‘82BJ42) at the ripe age of 52. Have a 15 yr old teenage daughter I’m going to try and get interested in wrenching. Cheers!
