I use spray grease ... Also called spray lube for open gears

It will stop the rust and make a nice layer of sticky nasty grease everywhere lol

I have only used boiled linseed on canvas ... You do however need to be careful with it... If you wipe up with a rag you need to layout the rag flat on concrete ... If you wad it up it will spontaneously combust ... Just sayin

I will have to ask the old school trucker (dad) if he had used it before for that... He does know odd trucker tips ...

Like using orange peels in your diff to quiet it down and buy you some time before needing a rebuild... I do not recommend that anybody does this ... But... It was one of the more interesting ones lol

Well , that explains a few things . In the truck shop I worked at we saw a lot of "roadside repairs" on coast to coast trucks that came in on the hook - from oatmeal and other food stuff in the diffs to cheap jumper cables holding the electrical system together . My all-time favorite was the guy that took a piece of the trailer floor's wood and used chain binders to hold a rear drive axle on the tractor in place - the whole torque arm assembly was broken in half ...

As to linseed oil - try Fluid Film . I've been using this stuff for a few years now and plan to fully coat the under side of the Cruiser as well as my pickup this spring - two coats per year in spring/fall . The stuff is lanolin/linseed mixture and flows great as well as penetrating into crevices . They sell a pump sprayer and bulk quantities in gallons - the sprayer has a tip designed to atomize the stuff well so it can be "fogged" into doors , ect....
My tests on outside steel equipment , including my '67 Wheel Horse that sees a lot of salt/gravel/mud has worked excellent - no rust .

The Fluid Film has a light odor , but it goes away pretty quickly in summer heat . Not sure about door interior area - that might result in a more pungent odor in the summer - but it does dry somewhat with time .
I'd rather the wife complain about an odor than have rust any day...

OK this is where the thread gets fun...

If you have ever been around sheep, in a herd or singly, you will recognize the smell of the lanolin...

Lanolin comes from sheep that are raised specifically for their wool.

And that's all I know about sheep.

Sarge knew exactly where I was going. I have been considering coating the nether regions of my daily for over a year but can't bring myself to pull the trigger and hear about how badly it smells. I only accidentally spray painted alot of parts in the basement once....

Yeah - I know all about that "spousal sensitivity" , got one myself . In my opinion , spray it and leave it outside in the heat/sun for a few days - the odor should go away once it dries out .

I got even with my other half once after hearing about grease , oil and other odors on my clothes - I had her help fill the diffs on the Cruiser - her job was running the pump on the 5 gallon container . It really didn't need the gear oil changed , but her reaction was worth the cost of the oil .

Sprayed a trial section on Friday. Odor is not "unpleasant". But, there is an odor. Day and a half later, after sitting in an enclosed garage, the smell is diminished. Still there but not strong.

Photo is a fresh application. I'm taking the mule in for an alignment this afternoon so I'll take a couple pics of the "Soaking in process"....

Sarge NAPA carries the fluid film in a 1gal container, they do not have the applicator. I did find that one aerosol container went a "very long way". In fact, I believe three cans (aerosol) would do the tub/frame. However, IOT spray the inner frame/inside doors etc. you will need a wand applicator.

The reason I'm interested in the applicator is to get the stuff to atomize better - out of the can it doesn't , it comes out like snot . I will say this - the more rough the surface , the better it fills in the surface without wanting to run off . A can does seem to last quite awhile and I use it for more than just surface protection - it's also a great lubricant and protects rubber trim parts very well , keeping them soft . Around here it's common to have door seals on cars freeze to the body opening - Fluid Film or Syl-Glide will stop that easily .

Finished up the Con-Ferr console. The console is not bolted together. While posting I realized it's sitting backward.

I have some marine grad vinyl inbound IOT finish up the removable section of the OE console as well as a new tubular key/lock. Overall not bad for a driver quality rattle can resto...

I do think I'll re-sand one side of the Con-Ferr, IOT deal with a little orange peel (bad prep work)...

Now, if I can get my hands on a set of the Con-Ferr rear tub storage containers, I'll be in the "Tall Cotton"...

Test fit the console...Fits like it's spoda' fit.
Has an ever -so-slight difference in the vinyl color. Seat vinyl is not OE. Console vinyl is *OTM.

All in all a productive morning. Added a gallon or so of petrol and took it for a leisurely romp around the post. Between the Bilstein shocks, OME bushings/springs, MAF anti-inversion shackles and the Tough Dog steering damper, this old mule is a beast of a diffrent color. I mean besides the black DP and the Dune Beige re-spray...

Initial review of the springs (heavy) with the Bilstien shocks is outstanding compared to the old set-up. IMHO, not harsh or jarring, but that is in the opinion of the driver. Looking forward to testing it this fall loaded down with kit. You can tell in the previous post that it sits very nice. No "water bug or canine crouch".

The RTC Tough dog damper is also a very nice addition. Smooth "uneventful" turns, with an "even-tempered" return...I'm running a manual steering box so it's not grandma's Lincoln but, it's more than responsive, it's almost pleasant!

Decided to let ole' Zig out of the Barn fer a spell. Seemed to take to the sun!

Word from Mark @Coolerman was positive. Rear harness & fog light harness is inbound. I should have taillights early next week.

Also, Paul @3_puppies found a spare clutch gear for a long body ASCO. It's inbound as well. Thanks Paul I owe you one!! You like Possum?
