50 Series?? (Shorty 55)

Just as I did. 110" wb is perfect. Lots of room for an auto and doubler. Again, there's tons of 40 guys flipping springs and pushing axles out to get as close to the 106"ish ideal as possible. Twisted customs makes their frames from 101-106". So do many, many other buggy manufacturers.

If I had to chop some out of the frame and go 90-100" I would take 24" out of the bottom below the body line behind the rear wheels. And 10-15 out of the bottom of the rear door being sure to leave the hinge area for a smooth transition to the front door. Then I would take 34-39" out of the top of the rear door and slide the rear window section forward to meet the front door. Then chop 34-39" out of the roof and 10-15 out of the frame.

Just assuming those numbers would work without a full pig and tape measure in front of me at the moment.

Getting very close to an 80 WB.....

All things considered, if maintaining the wheel base with intentions of a wheeling Pig, would almost be of a mind to consider a body swap, even consider widening the body, but shorty is intent and shortening a 55 frame looks like child's play compared to shortening an 80 frame.

Good point.

Only way to achieve is lengthening door, or pushing the entire body aft on the wheelbase.....if aesthetics are a concern. In this case, would like it to look as if originally intended.

Going to input and clean up in AutoCad next week....I hope, but for clarification, so pardon the crappy pics.

I've watched too many reality TV shows, but thinking tape and tape measure may be in order for me to visualize.

Had not given any consideration to the door following the wheel well arch, but appears they took that route on this.... Looks like the rear door was sliced to the front.

Another, looks better. image-304595059.webp

closer to 36".
after toying around with the tape and Chris's request for a photochop, I'd have to say- without loosing some WB, it is going to be one funny lookin summbich. with a 10" reduc in WB, then a full 36" could be chopped w/o looking like a cheap chinese counterfit russian 4X4...pregnant roller skate... kankles...w/o that big ol booty on it, the pig might suffer from overly obtuse front butt...

this one?

Nope, they had Gary Bjorks Fax number and a TLCA toll free number shown thats how i made my first contact. I could kick myself that i somehow dont have that issue anymore.

sorry to disagree, although the 2 door does look good, i like the looks of the chopped 4 door.

as for the 70 series, the mid wheel base is a perfect truck as far as i am concerned. the long wheel base 75/79 series is too long, too much break over angle and way too long ass.
the 70 shorty, which i wheel, is nice for where i wheel but i don't feel as ... secure ... as i did when i wheeled the middy. that extra few inches makes a huge difference. but still short enough for threading the needle in the bush.
i have wheeled the 77/78 series, very smooth due to the extended wheel base but too long for my liking in tighter trails.
the other 2, pass. highway use only.

70/71 - 2310 mm 92"
73/74 - 2600 mm 104"
77/78 wagon - 2730 109"
75 - 2980 mm 119"
79 - 3180 mm 127"

the 55 is 2700 mm or 108" very close to the 60 series and the 77/78 series. that would be stable on the steeper inclines and decents. chop the back and knock yourself out.

or

just armor the butt and drag it everywhere.

my FIRST land cruiser in 1981 was a FJ55. I have owned and wheeled a number of them since.
i have a soft spot for 55s,
and yes i like the 70s, no surprise there.
you are spouting off about what wheel base is perfect in your tight little inexperienced world. I posted up what wheel base i liked for wheeling ... just happened to be a 70 series list of wheel bases.

or is this forum your personal sandbox?

Why are you even in the 55 forum? To tell us all about 70 series?
