Yeah thought about it... Taco or Tundra would need to get a new front axle with passenger side drop or flop sides for tcase front output besides the IFS elimination. Also not crazy about the amount of wiring involved and the only engine I really like on those is the 5.7. Think I'd be farther ahead starting with two 20' chunks of rectangular tubing and building a frame jig and going from there.

When I chopped the top off of the previous pig I left the section over the driver like a 4Runner. I like it way better than a true convertible.

That sounds perfect.

Do you think an RTH would be possible for the balance?

Taco or Tundra

80 Series.

With the assumed lift you've depicted, the extra width may be perfect in appearance and benefit stability....granted, maintaining that stability with an off the shelf 80 lift might prove difficult.

Wheelbase is 6" longer, overall length is 8" longer, all on a 3/4 ton boxed frame.

Embrace the 1FZ-FE for what it is and run it....call it an 59 Series.

this has always been my favorite chopped pig. but i like jamiesters ideas. i like the full rear door, angled top, longer wheelbase

in post 34, love the look but so much easier just buying a FJ55 ex-fire truck from Japan and chop and mod the rear, most of the work is already done and they can be picked up dirt cheap ...
when they show up...

The whole RHD isn't appealing. Haha.

Interesting how they terminated the cab at the bed.

Might look cool for the crew cab truck to finish similarly.

Guessing the wheel bad of the 56 fire is the same, doesn't appear they had any issues with cantilevering the bed a ways past the axle.

I'd be interested to know if the pillars and roof supports are any stouter than a 55. Sure seems a long distance to span, unsupported, with what structural I've seen inside.

those have come up at action in Japan now and then VERY rare ... i almost bought one 5 or 6 years ago.
passed on it though.

def ex-military units, not for civilian use.

Don't tell Arnold until we're all done with our current projects, or we'll be screwed on parts, for sure.

Hahaha.

Going to wind up with a roofless, ass-less, '71 that is rock solid firewall forward and has relatively solid floor pans, throughout

The front half of the '72 roof (that the '71s is being used on) is in fair enough shape to work with or I have an Econoline that'll soon see salvage (unless someone wants a POS E-350. Knock yourself out.)

It's tempting to try to find a purpose for it to avoid the scrap yard fate the '71 shell may be destined to and a single cab tray back would be doable with the remaining carcass....in my pignorant way of thinking.

I'm determined to learn how to do body alteration/sheet metal work for myself. Maybe it'd be a good start, since the worst that can happen is I never fess up to the attempt and it's scrapped anyway.

Who knows?

Casually looking for good body shells for the Shorty.

I will be starting classes late winter early spring.

Thanks Bob.:):pig:

Couple questions...

First, would it be safe to assume that the bulkhead (??) is from another derivative of Cruiser on this?

Curious how one, whose self described as pignorant, could go about replicating the back of the cab, with a heavy emphasis on safety, but without caging.

Second, does this look like an earlier bed than the '80s?

This is claimed to be a 1980 and earliest bed I've found that appears similar.

Not that it matters, just curious.

Going through the archives, found this in iPhoto.

And for fun.
