Kinda all over the place today. Did some stuff that will just have to be undone, like put the top on. It doesn't make sense o work on it with the top on and I have to glue the welting between the top and back, but it was very motivating to put the big pieces together.

I spent a lot of time looking for the kick vent doors. I took them off to paint the insides and the edges and now I can't find them. They have to be around, but they are not in the bed, where I generally put things.

In looking for the vent doors, I kept finding things that I ended up putting on. i also had some students on a hoist putting headers on a SC300. I knew it was going to take a lot longer than they thought, but it was a LOT longer than they thought. It gave me a lot of time to dink around with stupid little things.

I put in the big part I painted this weekend. The back, the top, the door top braces, the w/s frame and the passenger door. The driver door had an issue that will require re-primering.

I loaded a Preval spray gun with 10oz of the white so I could hit bolts and such as things went together.

I put the windshield in, but I'm struggling with the "zipper". I'll get it tomorrow. It was actually a lot easier to put it it with the w/s in place than on the bench.

I got the vent window back in too.

The w/s vent needs a new front. I cut one out and finished the edges, bot now I can't find it either. I stuck the old one on for now to test out the new gasket/hinge.

Got the bed roughly in place and started to put the braces in to get it where it needs to be. Found the filler door recess from when I shortened the pig. I cut it out, but put a fuel cell in so I didn't use it. It fits really nice. There's maybe three inches of straight rubber between the filler neck and the tank inlet.

I have to decide if I want the door on it, or leave the recess open.

The opening is obviously only rough cut and the door is just set on there. It won't be crooked when it's on.

The problem I have with leaving it open is the recess is a lot larger than just the filler neck because the hinge for the door was in there.

I also worry about the location behind the tire maybe filling with dirt and crap.

Wow. Solid work over the past year. Very solid:beer:

Cygnus white is definitely not making it with the lily white. I re-sprayed the top lily white based on some other FHT trucks that had color matched tops.

The bezel needs to be a different color.

Bright white or dark gray or dove gray? There are some trucks out there with a dove gray bezel that matches the rims. I've got plenty of the powdercoat I used on the rims. I've seen dark bezels too that look good.

Dove gray rims:

Little steps forward. Big steps back.

Got the correct apron lights on. I know the truck shouldn't have apron lights, but the fenders had them and they were not going to let go of the aprons. If/when I replace the fenders I have aprons with no light holes in them.

Welded little tabs on the rear axle to hold the brake lines. They are all run now. Once they are all in clamps I'll fill the system and I should have brakes.

Still no start. The flywheel is bad. New flywheel is here and it shouldn't take long to put the new one in, but nothing I wanted to do this week.

The correct w/s latches are on their way. Once I made the hooks I realized there was no way the latches I had were going to work.

Welting between the roof and back is all on, but short. I have to order some more, then pull up some of what I have down to hide the seam in the back, or order enough to really do the whole thing and re-do it all.

Trans tunnel is getting cleaned up so it'll look good no matter what kind of floor covering I have.

Keep up the good fight! You are motivating me to keep making baby steps, so thanks. I really look forward to your updates!

How was the flywheel bad?

And my new secret weapon to ensure my welds are top quality.

Woof! I might have to unsubscribe from this thread now. Unless you promise to never show that helmet again? :p

Anyway, I'm really enjoying this build..... Nice work!

Im surprised that helmet isn't your avatar...

That white looks pretty good in the pics. Nice contrast. Did you already paint the bezel, or is that a different one?

I went ahead and painted it. That's the finished product other than the screws that hold it down.

I also got the headlight buckets all blasted, painted, repaired and installed and forgot the wires.

So it'll come back off to do that.

The left driving light is the modified one. It has a PC168 brake light bulb in it to make it shorter to clear the steering box. I'll put one of those in the right one too so they are the same brightness.

Pretty good day today.

Re-dropped the distributor. It was off a tooth or two. Pretty much fired right up. Ran out of fuel before I could get it to idle. No major leaks. Valve train sounded OK, not that I could hear much over open shorty headers.

Fabbed up the exhaust back to where I'll put a y-splitter that's normally used to split single exhaust into duals. I'll put it on backwards to joint the two pipes where they now run next to each other. I did the same thing on the pig and it worked well. Way easier than trying to notch and weld the pipes together. I got them to stack between the frame and the area below the oil filter so the oil filter is still easy to get off.

put hose tabs on the radiator crossmember for the front brake line. Attached the tab for the transition to the brake hose and tightened up all the fittings. Bled the master and let the calipers and wheel cylinders gravity bleed. The pedal is still a bit soft, but it stops all four wheels.

The driveshaft was still out from the flywheel swap. Before I put it on I installed the e-brake backing plate. I ran the cable up and spent a good half hour jammed under the dash trying to get the pin in the cable. Man, that sucked monkey ass. Now the e-brake stops the rears too. I can't remember when I had a cruiser that the e-brake worked on.

Built a battery box out of one that a student had started, but that didn't fit once the fenders were on. Got it sandblasted and powdercoated. Just needs to be bolted down. Maybe a bigger battery installed too.

Messed around with some e-fans I had around the shop and then ordered a flex fan. It'll fit nicer and it fit well in the stock shroud.

Got the bed situated where it needs to go. Messed around with the filler neck with the intention of going to get more fuel. The old hose was hard as a rock so I tried to heat it up to get it to flex a little. Didn't work. Wrecked the hose and didn't soften it up even a little. I seem to remember finding fuel filler neck hose is not all that easy.

It's funny how short the bed is. It'll look like a 40 with a 45 top on it.

I think your going to have to get used to seeing that helmet a lot in your end zone.
