Update

Mark got here around 12:30. We started getting everything together and found a giant hole in the accelaration. Turned out to be an injector clogged. So after changing the injectors out...he was on his way! And he beat the snow that was inbound! You guys have fun out at the rocks tomorrow! I wish I was going...DOES ANYONE SEE HOW MANY CRUISERS ARE HERE!!!!

I Recognize One....

Made it back into Austin around 8:30. The truck drove fantastic on the way to Austin, I cruised around 70MPH...after I beat the snow and rain. I think we still need to dial in the TPS, I re-tightened the screws, but it's still not 100% right.

Around 9pm I headed to Eric's (panoramic) to Finish a few things up. Then we took his FJ40 and mine out for a test run...but we drove each other's trucks. His FJ40, (12HT, H55 project) is a MONSTER! :grinpimp:

500 mile shakedown report

Over the last 4 days I put about 500 miles on "Stella". (that's what my kids named the 3FE40) I've driven thru sleet, snow, rain, and some fantastic sunny weather on the way from Dallas to Austin - then to Katemcy Texas for the LSLC Round up.

The first 200 miles went well, but on Thursday when I rolled into Austin and had a problem. Some of the RTV that Randy and I used around the Cold Start Injector - was not sealing well, so I had a big vaccum leak. In our rush to beat the Snow out of Dallas Randy snapped one of the two bolts on the Cold start injector. One the positive note - I burned lot of rubber, and did a few fish tails, trying to keep the RPM's up in first and second gear. Something you don't see much in a FJ40. :D

It ran great over 2800 RPM's so It was great on the open road. Once I got to the Roundup, I decided to park the truck and not take a chance on the trails with a truck that would not run well in 1st and 2nd gear. I borrowed some RTV, and tried to plug the leak - but it still not running well. So I just popped the hood and had lots of people taking note of Randy's work. Lucky for me my wife drove up our FZJ80, and we wheeled that, also it gave her a excuse to ditch me and hitch a ride with the hard core group.

The leak got even worse today, so it was a "Fast and Furious" ride home.

Eric - and I followed each other the entire time, him driving his 12HT FJ40. We ended the weekend at a early dinner tonight at Copper's BBQ in Lano Texas. What a great end to a fantastic 4 days. Eric Had just finished his truck on Friday, so it was a shake down trip for both our rigs.

Lame weekend here in Dallas.......chopped out the rusty sill area on passenger's side, and that was about it.

Randy let me know when we can pull that engine.

Was that your 80 on the first pic?? Glad to see Global Explorer made it out for some fun. Guess we should have fixed that bolt before you left. Atleast you can lay a scratch:bounce: I guess they aren't supposed to do that.

Alex Bionic is at the body shop!

yeah - it was nice to have the FZJ80 as a chase truck. The Global Explorer kicked butt. Eric had a giant grin plastered on his face the entire weekend.

So your wife got to wheel along?! That's cool. Tell Eric G.E will need some competition for that 12HT... I will have to do a diesel swap for sure now! :D Great pic's and glad to see you got there and back in record time! OH and what was the drool factor??

It also seems to control the circuit opening relay initially and the start injector timer. It is wired into STA on teh ECU. So what happens if STA always has power? And if the circuit opening relay is not controlled by the other path (which it would not is the neutral switch is hard wired). It doesn't look like you can just ignore it.

where did these diagrams come from?

well, the pictures didn't show up. guess i'm not special enough. they are on page 5.

Those came from the FSM wiring diagram for a '91 FJ80. You can get them from Toyota. If you need something 1990 or later you can download it. 1989 and earlier you haqve to order from the material distribution center. The website has been down a couple days now though. I don't know what is happening there.

I know you are trying to put a 3FE from cruiserparts in. You need to find out what year it is from...

Look for my build thread coming soon.

Randy,
what comparable diesel engine could you locally source that would fit in a 40-series?

A 6.6 Duramax :D I will see if we can make it fit...But I can get anything you want here. Isuzu, Cummings, detroit. Got them all here.

A 4-cylinder, turbo-charged Isuzu NPR engine w/ manual tranny would rock. I need to find another FJ40 frame & tub to put it in before starting this.....
