This thread has gotten me interested in installing my 35's again. I have Slee's KDSS relocation kit sitting in the garage as well. Has any one installed this themselves? How hard is it?
In the past, I've installed Icons sway bar relocation kit on my FJ, which was easy. The KDSS relocation kit looks very similar, but I'm I little worried about the KDSS system pressure. If I do this, it'll be in my driveway (no lift). With the LC sitting on the ground with the front end on jack stands and the KDSS bypass valves opened 3 turns, is there any pressure in the system?

KDSS is SUPER high pressure. That's why you definitely don't want to turn the valve more than 3x. Super high...like 500-600psi or some such crazy figure. I've never heard of anyone having an issue with See's relocation bracket, but I don't have one. Maybe talk to Slee himself as I'm sure he'd be happy to help you, his customer. I also know that @willybeamin uses the KDSS relocation...

I'm seriously considering going to 35's this summer--even though I've always said I'd wait until I can afford to re-gear & add lockers. But as WillyB said recently...how will I ever appreciate new gear unless I figure out how much I need them first? ;)

I think @MScruiser installed his KDSS relocation dealeo by himself, and if I remember correctly he said it was a giant pain in the ass, but I could be wrong?!?!

Yes, it was a total PITA.

I had to get the help of 2 other friends men to get it into place.

I'm not seeing many talk about this, but in the 100-series, one of the key mods to 35's would be a mild body-lift. Something like a 1/2-1" would be sufficient to keep all the suspension travel possible.

It'd be interesting to do a 34" roll call too.

I believe I am in the 34" club. 285/75/17. Nitto says 33.86" I think that counts as 34"

If it's a"pain in the ass" for @MScruiser? Then it must be a **MAJOR** PITA...bc MS knows his stuff!!

Yeah, that's what I was afraid of. I did ask Slee about this when I bought it, but they said they've only ever installed it on a lift and were unable to give me any advice for doing it on the ground.
I guess, I need to find a lift. Maybe I'll let the fine folks down at Baertrax handle this one.

34.8" measured here - having the shop adjust up the front coilovers after they add 20mm of coilspacers to the rear to see if that eliminates the minimal rubbing on the KDSS -also finally installing the 10mm front spacers and matching 1.5" rears.....

for those who haven't done gears tied with adding the larger tires I decided I had to after leaving the flatlands.... fine for Houston, but 6th gear becomes rare and the hunting in 4th/ 5th can't be good for the tranny.....it was far more obvious while in NC - thus gears are going in.

About the Slee sway bar relocation, it's not hard to put on. Just use a ratchet strap to bring the bar forward and a floor jack to bring the bar up into position. Maybe I got lucky, but I put them in about 40 minutes.

My problem was my ARB bull bar brackets are in the way of the driver side KDSS arm when the bar is dropped and moved forward. So I would of had to cut and reinforce the bumper bracket, and it wasn't my choice to do that since I don't want to run a 35.

this is with stock coil overs, 10 mm spacer, and Tundra arms while icons were getting rebuilt.
Here is the rear tucked

Took the first step today towards the 35 club. Wheels on order, hopefully picking up tires tomorrow. Planning on adding 10 mm spacer in the rear springs and turning down the coilover spring retainer to match the rear. Also hoping the SPC control arms can be adjusted to push the wheels forward to help clear the body mount and wheel well.

@TexAZ did you get there? What tires /size did you mount? Were uca adjustments adequate?

I've been on 35s for two years now. I have the Tundra front conversion, icon coilovers and 15mm spacers. I run the spacers to keep the preload on the springs minimal. I have the SPC upper control arms. I used the adjustability in them to push the wheels forward to clear the body mounts. I went too far and destroyed the drivers side CV. this shot is one of a series I did to demonstrate how much you can move the wheel front to back. (a little over 1")

out back I am running the Icon progressive springs with a 10mm spacer.
this setup nets about 4.25" lift. my 35x11.50r20 ridge grapplers rub the rear fender wells when stuffed. I added aftermarket bumpstops, but noticed some minor rubbing still, after some hard abuse in Moab this year.

the icon rear coils are 1.5" taller than OME 2721s, but seem a lot softer. they make for an amazingly smooth ride with little to no weight in the back, but squat considerably with just a couple hundred pounds of gear in the truck.

One of the keys to the 35" recipe in my mind is the body mount chop. Rather than trying to bring the wheel/tire forward via upper control arms (which may introduce CV binding), the other Toyota platforms that run really large tires will chop the body mount immediately behind the front tire. Not wholesale chop per say, but trimming it for clearance. And then welding a patch to box it in again. This is commonly done on Tundras, Tacomas, FJs, 4Runners.

Some criticize Toyota for locating the body mount that forward, but I believe it's also where it is to avoid tire intrusion into the cabin in an accident. Either way, the surgery is really not that big of a deal as it's just clearancing rather than moving anything.

Looks something like this:

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't SLEE run 35's on his LX?

They'll just self clearance in time :)

35s rubbed on his 100-series (LX470) too. Some minor rub on plastic is not a big deal. It's likely not rubbing big time or on structural stuff as that would just not work off-road.
