@mcgaskins are you running your PSI for the 34" tires at 40? I saw on the tire pressure thread that the recommended pressure from gaijin is around that. I was wondering how the ride was. The shop that installed mine put the tires in the low 30s so I definitely need more air in the them. Just wanted to know if 40 was too little or too much. Thanks in advance!

Have OME BP51 suspension suspension installed as well as upper control arms (don't know if that affects your calculations or not just thought I would include).

Nice thoughtful post! I totally agree that 34” is a completely reasonable size for TLC.

LX570s don’t have KDSS, and thus are a bit more forgiving at the limits. I have 275/80r18 which is a rare size (super swampers and kenda) on a bit more spacer at 35mm effective. No rubs after pushing the fender liner forward and deleting mud guards and some inner lower back fender trim. This tire measures just under 35” on the truck diameter. According to the scrub radius calculator 40mm offset would be slightly better for that measure, but I already had 1” spacers.

I haven’t had it in high mode with full stuff and the wheel turned out full , if there is any rub it will be in that situation on the outer front wheel well.

Yes the lack of KDSS is very welcome on the LX trucks for bigger tires. I had 275/65/20 KO2s on my LX and felt that was a perfect tire for a stock truck which measured 34"x11", and I never had any issues once I removed the rear mud flaps on the front tires. I personally prefer tall and skinny even though I know some want the widest tire possible.

Great to hear, as I'm also potentially interested in a 34" KO2. Did you ever measure the KO2 on the truck? Did it actually come out to be around 34" tall? I had KO2s in 34x10.5r17 on my Tacoma, and found that the tires only measured 32.5" tall when properly inflated.
 
Nicely done thread. Really will help future owners decide if they really want to make the commitment to jump into a 35+ tire.

Modding is such a slippery slope. We push each other to more and more extremes. For the hobby and challenge of it. Until we collectively go too far and find the just right recipe.

I am considering jumping from 275/65R20 (34.1 x 10.8) to a 285/65R20 (34.6 x 11.2) on the LX for the next set. I can't really see anywhere that might present a problem but you never know until you try. This could be a good in between size for the LZ owners where KDSS is not a concern. I probably won't know for a while though as I don't drive much working from home now and it's hard to justify replacing tires with 80% tread when the money could do elsewhere. Like some sliders, if SLEE ever get's them back into production!

There are so many variables, ways to measure, inconsistencies, etc. that I don't care to measure any more honestly. I just care about what fits, and the 275/65/20 fit perfectly IMO on the Lexus and @RyanR also runs that tire on his LX. I removed both the front and rear plastic bolt on flaps on my LX, and that's all I had to do to get it working perfectly.

The 275/65/20 KO2 was ever so slightly taller than the 285/70/18 RG. Keep in mind the LC was slightly downhill from the LX exaggerating the difference, but the KO2 was a tiny bit taller - and noticeably narrower.

With 34's what is the best gears to run if it came oem with 3.307?
34/31.6 x 3.307 = 3.56 ?

For those with the six speed transmission I would recommend gears as well for these sizes.

the 6 speed tranny models in the us have a 3.9. I went up to 4.88 which I would recommend to any and all. It was amazing with 32s and basically ‘stock’ feel for 35s. Gears are a much bigger upgrade as you get much more available torque. At least by my seat of the pants feel.

If I had to choose between 35s or gears I’d go with gears.

I realized today that I am not 100% rub free with 34’s. The painted section has self clearanced and there is some scuffing on the liner there from rub. Moving up to a 285/65R20 would definitely require some more work. This rub isn’t enough to hear from the cabin and the passenger side clears but only just, like I could probably stick a sheet of paper in there and it would stay. But there is no evidence it has ever contacted on the passenger side and I think area would be easily trimmed or massaged with the heat gun. The other consideration for me would be, is there any chance at all I can stuff a 285/65R20 under the truck? Being a frequent kid hauler and grocery getter I’m just not willing to put a swing out on this truck.

Heat Gun and that will push right out of the way. I had to take out the tab that lower bolt is in too. It’s easy to remove the tab via metal fatigue. Drill a hole in the plastic and wire tie it back. Easy anddefinitely no grinder required.
