Good camping at the bottom of Slickrock but no way to get the stockers into the trail. We camped at the top for the first 45 Run and came down the trail a good ways. And it's one of the options I was considering.
Georg

By bottom do you mean Utica Reservoir? Definitely easy for stockers to get there as long as they come in from the Spicer Reservoir road instead of slick rock.

The bottom of Dusy at Courtwright Res would be a great destination. It's a little remote, but really a great spot and the harder core trucks could go and play on Thompson Hill.

It's a long way from anywhere but a really good destination.

A long way from anywhere is always a good destination.

Owens Valley with a run into the park from the North.
Panamints, Jawbone, Kennedy Meadows, Hollister Hills

there is a way to get over there from Cerro Gordo . . .

granted, we did this more than 10 years ago . . .

Georg,

I'm not positive it's even open, But Niagra Rim Trail has easy stuff, and hard stuff.

Only downside, Is camping might get real crowded..

Unless you camp in the big open area half way up the first dirt road, going up to the trail, right out of camp. Huge semi flat area with some tree cover.

Edit: You can also take the fire roads all the way to the Relief Reservoir. which a stocker can do.. (I did it 7 years ago, so hopefully still mild)

4x4 In Motion does there annual run there. They camp in the area near the end of the trail (where the rock pile is). Definately enough room. The only thing that sucks is there is no water anywhere near there. Gets mighty dusty.

did it last week, open and good condition!

hollister is out. i don't get along with poison oak. and a big part of the event has always been to get away from the crowds. the last thing i need is to have to listen to some drunk redneck playing both types of music all night; country and western.

rubicon is always great, but not in a stock 45.

pismo is out. great place and all but too close to SNT ( yes, i will keep going every year even if jim and katherine are'nt "hosting" ) and i don't want to intrude on that event.

niagra rim is a definite possibility.

dusy is sounding better and better the more i think about it.

sourgrass might be worth a shot, i took my stock troopie all the way in there without any issues. the campsite at the end is hard to beat, but with 50 rigs it'll get crowded in a hurry.

I'll put in a vote for Dusy.

Because it's close (to me), and it makes a good excuse to just go and try out the trail.

DUSY DUSY DUSY. I know I don't have a 45, but I can bring a 55 and a 62

Gold Lake was a really nice area, and the 4x4 trail in is easy enough for stock trucks with more trails above. Nice campground. Cool things to do and see in the area.

George you might want to look into red lake above shaver. Also you could camp near Bald mountain as a base camp and rigs could go to different trails like Red, Coyote, Strawberry and Mirror lakes. Also Swamp would be a option but would be a long day. Really Dusy is a long way back but is difficult in many places for a stock rig and its also 36 miles long. The red mountain area would allow you to go to 5 different trails and 5 different lakes that would not take all day. Bald mountain has a base camp that rvs and trailers can be parked at is is about 30 minutes from the red mountain trail head. Bald mountain can be done in a stock suv so the stocker guys would have fun around there. It has a couple hard obsticles for the hardcore guys that are optional. Let me know if you need more info. I am sure some of the CVC guys would help out. I could drive up and lead a trail for ya and show you around.

bald mountain, rock creek road is a nice place to set up and take off from. all levels of difficulty starting at easy, not too far from town and pretty central to all of the trails
