Dusy is incredible to say the least. It's the most beautiful trail I've ever been on and won BFG's Outstanding Trail program last year.

Now.... If I could only find a way to disguise our Hilux trucks as a FJ45 :D

High Sierra trail - 10,000 ft plus at the top!

luckily we have a lot of choices but for some reason i'm thinking dusy more and more.

or lifted 6.0 powerstrokes on 37s, if the flow is high enough. have pictures somewhere.

bald mtn is pretty easy, I have gotten an XC-LB F250 up there, but plenty else to explore. I would not be the least bit surprised if Courtwright or Dusy had high amounts of traffic due to the holiday weekend.

Each one of the places I think of I have to scratch because of stockers or because the camp spots are not big enough. from Sac or the bay, though, lost coast and high lakes are really not that much farther (or closer in the case of high lakes) than fresno, but I know there's a large SoCal contingent as well.

I vote Dusy or Sand Flats area (Red/Coyote Lake, Mirror Lake, and Weest/Strawberry Lakes). The Sand Flats area might be best as it's got a decent sized central area but all of those trails range from SUV runs to a decent trail in Mirror.

Really hoping to make it this year and if it's local it's even easier to bring the family along.

i don't think the river crossing would be a good idea for the stockers.....

you don't have to cross the river. only if you want to do a short loop. and it will be very low by that time of the year anyway.

wow that sucks i love that trail it is so fun and great camping to, what other trails are closed this year? hope i can make it to hang out with you guys.

dusy is sounding better and better the more i think about it.
with 50 rigs it'll get crowded in a hurry.

Dusy is by far my favorite trail, but it's no place for stock rigs or 50 rigs for that matter. Stock rigs could go the first two miles from Courtright Reservoir, but 50 rigs would overwhelm that area(Voyager Rock Campground).

I was thinking Sand Flats myself, large area you can get to with a two wheel drive and it's a trailhead with a variety of trails including easy ones for the stock rigs.

That's a good point and the kind of info I need. Would any of the Fresno guys be up for going on a scouting mission with me? I guess we'd have to wait till the snow melts ......

I need to save my fuel money for trail openings, but would ride with someone. Were you going to get a special use permit for your group?

what snow?

A week ago the ranger said there was still 10 feet of snow in the switchbacks where you drop off of the ridge going towards Mud Lakes(Swamp Lake Trail). He wants us to go into Red Lake in the next couple weeks. After the snow melts there's still standing water and wet areas, they wont open the area until those dry out.

Surprising considering the lack of it we got on my side this year. I'm gunna hafta make a run up there next weekend to see how far I can get

Simon, please take some pics and get a feel for how well sand flats would work for a larger group like ours. I'd greatly appreciate it.

Georg

will do
