What is the thought process on changing some of the bypass hoses? Have to pull them off for the water pump install so might as well change them? Mine seem absolutely fine, but figured I'd ask.

Only out of convenience if you want to. They last forever, but are relatively cheap. I tend to replace the clamps as well for belt and suspenders purposes

New to the party.

Bought a 2011 with 267k miles. Clearly had an aftermarket radiator and it leaked on the test drive.

The dealer was cool, and comped the cost of the radiator and I tried drop shipping two radiators from online sites. They canceled my order both times , they said the packaging wouldn’t hold up.

My friend @reddog90 found an oem radiator at a dealer and I’ll get it Monday.

So, to make the 1000 mile trip I did a patch.

I didn’t have time to let it cool down or stop leaking the first time. So I did a hot patch. I scuffed the leak site with 60 grit, taped it off to have a sharp line and slathered on the jb weld.

It leaked due to fluid coming out while it was curing.

So the following night we rolled into Dallas at 11pm. I let the truck cool down til 1:30am and scuffed the outer perimeter with 60 grit again and then over lapped with another coating of jb weld. It got to cure 7 hours and it’s solid.

This has been good. I’ve driven 500 miles and have zero leaks.

I’ll do an OEM radiator, hoses, fan clutch, support bracket and water pump/ thermostat this week.

Coming from a 60 and 62, this thing is amazing.

Glad this patch is working for you, but it will eventually fail. Mine did. Replacing the radiator wasn't that hard of a job.

My radiator failed eventually, but not the patched part. The plastic gave up on several other potions where it was thin.

Was yours leaking before the patch?

To me that is a very important distinction.

I don't remember. Would have to look back. I don't think so though.

I made it 1100 miles home with no additional leaking. I know it will just found the next site of thermal fatigue at a built in weak spot.

OEM radiator in hand within the next two days, I'll park the truck and wait for the rest of the odds and ends to show up and give it a good baseline set of parts.

Hi. Hope you're doing ok. Its been a while.

Mine was not leaking. preemptive patch. 2 years or so later, still no leak. But I'll be checking again tmrw.

I have a 13 lx with 151k miles. At about 90k miles and about five years ago. I had radiator, idler puller hoses, tensioner, belt, water pump, thermostat and hoses replaced.

Seems like I am developing dreaded crack again or am I imagining it?

Need to clean it up with a clean wet rag first to be sure.

Just did mine tonight. It went easily. This is is the first time I’ve worked on a new crusier. All my other stuff has been 60 and 40.

I regret not having all the stuff on hand to do hoses, thermostat, water pump etc but at least it’s not leaking coolant any more.

Doesnt look cracked from the photo. As mentioned, clean it up really well and check it again after a week or two to see if theres a crack or leak developing.

Looks like it was replaced with another old style rad?

The new one only came out in late 2018. Plenty were done before that point.. mine was spring of 18 actually. After 90k I’m just starting to see the crack again.

Yes he said about 5 years ago and I was wondering if it was replaced before the new style came out, or if someone accidentally replaced with the old style.

I ordered the radiator on 6/8/18.

Cleaned up photo. I have been monitoring since Jan 2023 since @bloc noted he developed crack again.

I have taken photos every couple of months.

Below is a cleaned up photos from today.

The one I just posted has a curve the the angle instead of a hard 90*. This is a good indicator of the changes they made.
