The LX you are referring to at COTR has the tundra front end and 0 offset wheels. It’s a good 8” wider than I will be. In this video from dissent, Ben purposefully took a bad line because the “right line” was just too easy (he has successfully completed it twice before that). That being said, different vehicles are built for different terrain. Ben’s 250 is built for maximum clearance for trails like Fordyce and the Rubicon. It wasn’t specifically built for Moab, although it still crushed it before he purposefully tried to risk things.
The other difference here for my rig is that I have gone with Werewolf portals. They are over an inch taller, but also over an inch wider and provide much deeper gearing. Also, they are made of steel and add 120lbs per wheel as opposed to like 40 lbs for the aluminum 74’s. For desert racing the 74’s have an advantage being light weight, but for more rock crawling applications I think the extra weight of the werewolf’s actually helps stabilize the vehicle and keep the tires down (the same reason rock crawling buggies add water into their tires).
All that said, we will see how it goes. I see lmtl3ss_or and wind_chillin_taco doing absolutely CRAZY stuff with their Werewolf portals, so that’s encouraging. The clearance and gearing will be awesome.
