Ok guys i think i know how to use search function and i am aware of the faq feature but all i can find is referances to the penny trick. I am looking for info on how to do it. Where to put them and how tight to make it. I have heard a lot of people are happy with this cheap fix and would like to try it. Thank you

What the hell is the 2 penny trick?.......

By the sound of it its leading up to some sort of ***** riggn'

I think he is refering to adding a penny to the drag link at the pitman arm to tighten up the spring.

Figures.......

center arm

yeah, thecenter arm rebuild kit costs 100 bucks and have heard you can do it for .02 cents. Just dont understand where to actually put the pennies.

:bang::bang:

center arm and drag link connection are two different things. Never heard of putting pennies in the center arm.

yea you are thinking of drag link end rebuild.. and the trick to use pennies doesn't make sense to me.. if you are gonna go through the trouble of getting that thing apart then you might as well spend the $30 to get a rebuild kit

conflict of interest........

With that said is this repair worth a penny?

i used only one penny...best penny i ever spent :) in this location:

It's really not hard to do. Pull the cotter key, unscrew the end, install your penny and put it back together. Cleaning it up and getting the cotter key is the hardest part.

Who would have ever thought?........

Not Me, as I would never stoop so low..........

After reading this thread, Why does the word "BOTCH" keep running through my head.........

So you would never stoop so low as to use a shim?

Funny since they are used so extensively by Toyota in Land Cruisers, every where from the knuckles to the transfer case.

You will be totally disgusted to hear I used a quarter cut in half in place of a woodruff key in my transmission.

Not only that I use non-metric cotter pins.

It was originally in TT many years ago...

works great...mine has 60,000 miles on it :)

Johnny, do you per chance remember WHO wrote that tip almost 20 years ago?

:hhmm:

and I thought the penny referred to the one I found holding up my windshield

some PO seems to have used it to get a tighter angle as the rubber got compressed :hillbilly:

I left it in the glove box for good luck :D

well mark i found the TT with the 2 penny fix...it was Rod LaHaise who wrote it...in 1997....soooo 13 years ago.

I dont know if that was the 1st writeup of it...but...thats the one i was remembering.

i only put one penny in...i thought it was in the location i showed in the pic i posted earlyer...but...this diagram shows it in a different location...i dont remember now where i put that darn penny

well here's a pic of the article i highlitted the pennies in red for better viewing...B&W TT's back then were hard to see at times :)

Edit.... the original article posted here is predated by Marks 92’

@65swb45 looks to be the originator of “the two penny trick”

Thanks Mark for your idea

Guess it was the way I was raised as a child, you know? "If the sum-Bitch is wore out fix it" and only one way, correctly.....

So after reading your sig line your repair traits are understandable...........
