Well that is a sweet development!

As much energy and detail that has been exhausted, the project is deserving of fresh power!

What is the expected power once all the adders are added to the new partial engine?

Pretty happy with all this.

Be happier when there is some Kings in here but besides new bumps inside the coils and caster correction the front is all done.

Cheers

250whp and 600ftlbs, approximately. The red wheel is running about 27psi.

Cheers

That should get the job done!

Speaking of red wheel, just waiting on an invoice from GTurbo and it is go time on three big items.

Diesel burnouts, oh ya! 🤠

Cheers

Which GCC country was this stored? Oman?

This was purchased from Partsouq.com. So my assumption is the Sharjah emirate.

These companies just sell what’s in warehouses. They re-supply very few actual part numbers once warehouses are depleted.

Most of the time, these companies are drawing on NOS just to get rid of the stuff for the GCC distributorships.

Their set-up for the NOS stuff is very similar to what the Canadians have done for years: as the mining companies have tons of NOS parts they bought years ago in a RSPL agreement with TMS/TMC.

When the vehicles reach end of their usable life cycle or upgrade to a new fleet, there is no need for the spares as they have been paid off and amortized. Then Canadian cruiserheads buy the parts at pennies on the dollar.

Same thing with these parts consolidators in the GCC.

None of the companies are directly associated with any of the Toyota distributorships in the GCC. They are generally pet projects of rich Emirati. A way to “clean money” and make money through legitimate businesses.

They have super economies of scale by drawing on migrant/slave labor, they reside in free-trade zones, have bro deals with their suppliers (which are usually family), have currency differences at their advantage, and have plenty of ability to absorb losses in lean times... and don’t need to do any real technical support of any kind. They just sell widgets and put them in boxes. :meh:

The redwheel with a decent tune and appropriate airflow makes for a fun truck. Dynoed @Indestructible 47 truck last week at 245rwhp and 770 rwnm...she's frisky!

So this project has been going great. @SNLC has been crushing it and having his eyes on this truck has been really good. The project was coming full circle and really the only thing Ian had not touched was the engine. And that began to cause me a little concern. Ian did a remarkable job on the last truck he did for me and I felt like I owed it to this truck to have Ian more intimately involved with the engine.....I mean the engine swap is what started all of this and Ian has practically re-done everything on this truck but the engine.

A few months ago I got to chatting with Ian and @Onur about some long block HDFTE engines that were showing in stock in the Middle East. What if we just ordered one of those? Would it actually show up? I ended up passing on that project as @wngrog and I were buying 45’s at the time. A couple of weeks ago I started that convo again with Ian and ended up deciding to dive in. The engine showed up this afternoon in Idaho. A brand new 1HDFTE ”partial engine assembly.”

We still have a lot of OEM parts to acquire. Plus some Gturbo bits from the Aussies. Ian is already in communications re a new manual injector pump and matching Gturbo red wheel. This is pretty cool to see.

bloody hell!

that is a sight to behold.

would the mechanical fuel pump be a FT pump? would this essentially make it a FT engine without fuel delivery being ECU controlled?

it does appear to be like christmas day every day in Ians shop..:)

Yes I believe so Mike. Not hard to find the pump, hard to find manifolds and a few other FT bits now NLA.

Cheers

Damn, this build just got real!

One thing you should keep in mind if you're planning on using the FT pump with this - the FTE injectors that came with this engine will not work correctly with the FT pump

Yea. I wish that was our only concern.

I was not even certain the engine would actually show up so we did not have a lot of things planned. It was more or less “we will think about it when it shows up.”

Now that it has arrived decisions have to be made. The problem with taking it to a mechanical injection system is that the long block is missing more than a few bits and pieces. Those bits and pieces are no longer available new and practically impossible without buying a complete FT engine. I was planning to actually do that last week but after talking to some mates in Oz it may be easier - and cheaper - to keep this thing FTE. Cheaper is all relative at this point though.

Prediction: You will build a full, brand new FTE and install that into your rig.

(When that happens, let me know that you have your current FT available for sale, haha!)

That's a fairly significant chunk of change to spend on something "just to see if it shows up". Lol

I was actually going to suggest going full FTE as well. People here tend to get hung up on mechanical injection, but the reality is that electronic injection is superior to mechanical on 1HD in just about every single way (Except ease of install). FTE pump is more robust, produces more power/torque across the entire RPM range, more efficient, parts are more abundant, etc. And installation isnt THAT difficult. Wiring for the FTE is relatively simple compared to something like 1VD, for example.
Going FTE would still require A LOT of parts though that will be difficult to source...

Honestly, I just assumed they were going to email me and say they did not really have the engine in stock and then refund my money. But after we paid the customs duty things got serious.

It appears I have sourced the FTE computer bits and wiring harness for a manual trans 70 series. Using a guy in Aus to build the wiring harness to work with the LHD 80 series. Had to find a manual transmission ECU because the A442 did not run behind the FTE.

These engines are just too reliable, the 24v heads, and to find one complete that will never run again is just like searching for rocking horse crap. I only ever knew of one seized FTE, that was due to debris putting a hole in the sump. What ever happens, it will be a terrific build with the quality of work these fellas continue to produce🍻

@jmlockwood needs to change the build title.

:)
I literally just logged on to provide the update.

So it’s official we are going to keep this engine and FTE and maintain the electrical design. I have sourced a 79 series computer setup from a manual transmission truck. Because the A442 was never installed behind the FTE, there is really no computer setup available. I was recommended to someone in Australia who will modify the 79 series harness to plug up to this 80 series and to accommodate LHD. @SNLC is working with Gturbo to obtain the injectors, injector pump and turbo. @Onur has now begun sourcing the new FTE bits and pieces necessary to package this thing up into a running engine.
