Yes I was looking into using spacers as an alternative...

The gantry is there for mangled cars....mine just stood there because other cars were in line for paint....guess the heat has everyone a bit edgy

images before i get it washed...as expected, a few things missing in the transfer...accelerator arm thing, front grill, driver side door handle...will check to see where they are tomorrow and after cleaning, see if anything else is missing.
 
Absolutely blows my mind you got an entire paint job for $1k!! Lol. I have been quoted $10-14k for something similar lol. Looks great!! Never would believe it's the same truck! going to feel great the first time you turn the key and get behind the wheel for a drive :)
 
Congrats on getting the old girl home! Looks great! Question, whats that black box on the rear of the truck that says "Land Cruiser" on it? We don't have those on US models. Just curious.

BTW, I like the choice on the black fender flares. I did mine like that out of necessity as they were pretty dinged up and had some exposed fiberglass. I patched them up and sanded them, and decided to go with the textured bed-liner vs. white paint. I like the way it contrasts the paint. Way to go!

Yep, looks like you're right. I zoomed in and its not a box, but an overhang that holds the light. I was thinking it might be some sort of First Aid kit or something, but thought it was an odd location for that. Oh well, just a simple relocation plate. Thanks Ryan
 
Hi....yep..very happy she is home.

Yes, as Ryan said, its a licence plate holder that comes on most cruisers in our region.

I went with the black flares for both reasons aggiesdm...they were old and cracked...and the contrast turned out awesome.

Hlaf k cruiser....the moulds on the doors add value to the cruiser here...so I got them polished and put back .
 
as expected....our mechanics just dont finish a job without you having to revise EVERYTHING..... took a look around and found the following:
1- AC radiator fan missing
2- Throttle arm linking the cable to the pump missing
3- Hood suspensions missing
4- Accelerator pedal broken top screw
5- Horn missing
6- Slight diesel leak from number 3 injector from front.
7- 2 clips holding the timing belt cover missing
8- alternator belt VERY tense
9- front bumper held on with two VERY lame screws, plays around

i made it very clear to the workshops that everything i change i want them to keep the old parts in a box for me....nothing came back

no hood, right fender, rear upper hatch, pistons, piston rings, emblems etc etc...

guess i still need to go back tomorrow...sometimes they think that they OWN these because they did the work. Got to get them back before they sell them....
 
yep...and imagine that these prices are HIGH here because of the customs rate for imports of non essential goods....the rate is 120% of purchase price....so ....if we do the maths....it should be around US$400 or something.....but thats how we get ripped of here in Africa..gov tax crippling the overall economy
 
going to do a temporary wiring install (the one i said was heating up) so i can get her licensed...then bit by bit work on the final wiring. with this...i want to do a before and after for the new projector lights....will install the old standard ones first ...do a test and then wire up the new ones....seen plenty of posts, but never saw a comparison.
 
ok...scratch the above...i mean..ive already had a hard time finding wires to go waste them for a temporary solution. Will do the actual install, adding photos and step by step instructions to how to construct your own loom (harness) ....BUT...will install the old lights as promised and then do a before and after comparison.

found a similar crimping tool that was confiscated at the airport....costs approx US$50....is that about right?
 
For what you have been able to accomplish, based on your location......simply WOW and congratulations. I've been in Africa trying to work on heavy equipment, and know exactly what you mean by "hard to get quality work" done. My hat's off to you, sir. Excellent thread!

PC with IH8MUD forum open (in case i need to look up something...no other reference is worth my time)
and for those wondering what the nail file is for......well.....its in case i need a break and want to do a manicure :D

and of course...... @scottryana @Boltripper ( i warned u)...the beautiful shrink wrap, crimp set and braided hoses set...
