Haha that sucks the custom officials are so corrupt that was really the only expensive thing in the box though. Glad that it finally made it to you mostly intact. The shrink wrap and protective wrap should help with all your wiring.

very corrupt, the customs guy told my cousin that it wasnt comlying with Sudanese 'standards'...funny enough i didnt know we had standards at customs....guess he was talking about very low moral standards....but my main concern was the shrink wrap...but i will find a way to crimp the ends.

Thanx

thanx again everyone...i am getting plenty of moral support here.

Just finished reading through this whole thread. I'm very impressed with your ingenuity. We take a lot of things for granted here in the states. Things like parts availability. Its great to see that you are able to overcome these obstacles. I guess that's where the saying come's from "necessity is the mother of invention". With that said I had some questions / observations.

1) Good paint choice, that's a nice color.
2) You mentioned your cruiser has a 1HD-T instead of the 1HZ but that the turbo has been removed ?
3) You also mentioned buying a 2.5 ton winch. I think that's going to be a little light for your truck. Most would recommend at least 1.5 times the vehicles weight. So for your cruiser a 4 ton might be considered a minimum.
4) I'm really surprised no one has mentioned anything about this being a left hand drive truck. It would be so nice to import a left hand drive diesel here in the states.

hi there half k cruiser....and thanx for commenting.
1- yes...i love the colour too, and it reduces the amount of heat absorbed without going out of the range identified as grey with our traffic police, so less paperwork
2- we have lots of issues here with the turbo install, mainly the heat. No one recommended i do the turbo, as it has caused PLENTY of destruction due to issues with the lubrication etc.
3- my mistake, its actually 3 ton (T Max 6500lbs). We are used to using snatches and pulleys with hi-lifts, so this will be more than enough to pull me out of anything here. We also dont get plenty of rain, so its mainly sand dunes etc, so the effort required is something like a nudge to get the wheels going...and we usually have either a land anchor or we just bury a spare wheel to hook on. thanx for the info, much appreciated.
4- the whole middle east and the majority of Africa is LHD. These trucks have been here for decades. Importing one would be a piece of cake, especially if you go to Saudi Arabia or even better the United Arab Emirates. They are readily available, and compared to the rates you have there, would be very affordable.....hey, maybe we can start a business..... HY Trucks (abbreviated for the Hajji Yankee Truck import company) Looooool.

seriously, plenty of expats are now leaving these countries and parting with their cars. I lived in Dubai for about 2 years and had bought a BMW 7 series (1999 model) fully rigged...leather seats, dual A/C...the works....that cost me US$2700 at the time (2010)...and i mean it didnt even have a scratch on it.

need to ask....as most of you probably know, we dont have Blue Marine etc...im looking into doing a 'manual' dual battery configuration.

Any ideas?

updates so far.....engine and tranny in....started up very nicely and smooth.
hood, roof rack, rear bumper, spare tire mount and side steps mounted.....looking good with those black door handles :)
