revised all the interior wiring....nothing is ground except whats supposed to be.....rechecked the wires to see if any got scrapped or damaged while i was moving them through the firewall...again nothing!!!!!!!

did a quick 'hajji' test.....solenoid works fine....connected the ground, positive and solenoid to the positive....wire to starter solenoid and cranked right up.....MUCH smoother than when i took her to the mechanics....that is one big smile itself....

need to figure out where the short is.....

does the solenoid connect to the gauge fuse or am i messing up somewhere?

I don't think the solenoid should be in the gauge circuit at all. The solenoid should be on it's own circuit to turn fuel on/off. The gauge circuit measures the resistance to ground through the level sensor. I don't have the FSM out to confirm.

i have no idea where i got that the solenoid is connected to the gauge fuse....im installing a separate fuse for it from IG1...would that work? or should i add a solenoid to be on the safe side....which in the future can work as a manual cutoff to secure the cruiser to some extent

Perhaps a short somewhere along the frame rail?

ok...so...the solenoid links to the IGN fuse to a relay which is powered (switched on) from IG2 not IG1....can someone confirm please....the FSM i have doesnt have anything with the solenoid circuit except testing to hear the 'clicking' sound.....

been a loooong week at work...couldnt get anything done the past few days.... went hunting 2 days (thursday and friday)....so...back to the wiring...

being AWAY from the soldering iron, wires and the whole deal does have its benefits....you get to think outside the confinds of what you have in front of you....literally. so....i found a 'theory' to trace my faults....breaking each units link to the circuit and using an ohmmeter to find where things have gone wrong....

this is SUPPOSED to be the right way....but when you are surrounded by wires and plugs waiting to get in the cruiser, you sort of lose your way....at least i know thats what happened to me as i DID mention that toyota cars are switch grounded in some earlier post.

anywayz.....after weeks with our mechanics, i guess i have started to think like them....in a VERY dumb move from my part, i actually had the headlights earthed to the body and not the switch.... :(

Taillight issue was the earthing and then found the combination meter was toasted....had so many solders at the back i guess one or two wires may have 'crossed' paths.....so went and got me another used one....also bought a working hazard switch (mine wouldn't stay pressed) and the lever AC type unit (mine had no markings and no clips to hold the cables).

did a quick test for the headlights....working PERFECT now...taillights still have an issue with which wire should go where...doing that in a few hours

got my front wipers working (also bought a container and washer motor)...will do the rear after i get all the required for licensing parts done.

will post images later on.

a question....from the fuel sender i have three wires....one is ground (black)...the other two (red and yellow)....but on the combination meter it only receives 1 from the main tank....what does the other link to? and which one do i connect to the meter?

so.....what did I do with my 80 this weekend.....hmmmm......GOT HER ALL WIRED n ready... :D

some soldering n crimping..dont mind the main positive lead...will do that once i get everything else done

Congrats Moe ... u've done such an amazing job , very inspiring..... keep it up

next in line.... sunroof and roof wiring...will add the new sunshades that have the mirrors and lights....then its on to the doors and windows.

i hoe by now i have learned from my mistakes (negative and positive who goes where) and the coming tasks will run faster n smoother.

Congrats Moe ... u've done such an amazing job , very inspiring..... keep it up

thanx....as i said before....i too was inspired by what other mudders have been up to....just getting there a bit slower....but getting there i hope :D

an image from where we went hunting....this area is full of Thompson gazelle and rabbits...unfortunately we couldnt hunt because there were some policing in the area (after gold smugglers) and we dont have a permit....
