Costal nc here hot and humid. When I got mine 11 years ago it didn't work neither did my driver power window on the way to the beach I stopped at Walmart bought the retro kit and just charged it right in tye parking lot no vacuum no special gauges or anything.

How’s the original AC in the 62? I haven’t tested mine yet
I was thinking of getting the gen 5 big boy vintage air with the Dakota digital
Just got it charged and works great. It’s either too cold or too hot, but it works great. Lol

That’s amazing it’s still running strong after 11 years?

I feel like those vintage air systems would struggle to cool the large cabin of a Cruiser. I've mostly seen them in single cab trucks and muscle cars, but who knows.
This is accurate. My truck is a non-factory A/C truck and a PO installed a Vintage Air kit. Even when it's blowing cold it can't keep up with TX heat. If the kids are in the back seat they aren't very comfortable. It might work better in a northern climate.

I’m thinking of installing the biggest kit they have would you happen to know which one they installed?

Also I’m doing insulation work everywhere, I might have to do vintage air because my condenser is dead and the whole system is so old it’s rusty and super dusty inside looks terrible lol

Finishing up all the welds finally. Almost Perfect
Going to cover all the electrical wires with red wolf wire tape, and do insulation work and weld any holes that I don’t need. I’m thinking of ordering the vintage air kit, the big boy Evap / ac dryer etc and build it in custom in there, with a Dakota digital auto climate control along with sound next with Kenwood Excelon & some good speakers all around, you know just being patient with the build lol

Also, I’m going to try to build a cabin air filter by k&n from a 2025 jeep wrangler they’re pretty thin I can make a cool little spot for it and see if it works

Went back and looked and it's not a "Vintage Air" kit, it's a "Old Air Products" kit. It is this exact kit:

I would highly recommend just replacing the condensor with a modern unit, rebuild/replace compressor, new updated drier and all new o-rings, convert to r134a and you should be straight.

Agreed, looks like @cruisermatt may have a solution soon.

Why do you want to reinvent the wheel on the AC? The stock system works well. All the components are replaceable, and based on your photos it will never be easier to do. I replaced every part of my 62's AC system with the whole truck still assembled, then later cleaned and resealed all the duct work when I had the dash ripped out. Jus' sayin' ;) Cabin filter is a cool idea.
Check your heater core while its out.

Nice welds.

My trucks been parked for like 20 years and the inside of the components is disgusting lol like the knobs don’t work good and there’s tiny rust spots everywhere plus plastic is so old it’s like cracking

Arnak,
Great photos! Just below the windshield opening is where I added a ton of peel and stick on my vintage ride, such as fatmat. From there a new pad and some thinsulate or something similar.
Great work!

Cleaning up the welds today making it nice and clean.

For the AC I’m going to try to test the original unit first for you guys if it’s works great we will keep it if its too old and doesn’t work, we might have to go the vintage air gen 5 magnum max whatever it’s called the total kit is around $2600 with the condenser, AC, and Dakota digital control unit

I would refurbish the stock ac stuff I've done it on 2 84 fj60s they both blew cold as **** one was an ls swap the other wasn't I refoamed all the flap doors along with every connection. I replaced all components and made custom lines for the ls swap used the old ac lines on the other but with new rings. No need to put some aftermarket system in.

That’s a good idea
