Hmmm - this should work - https://classics.autotrader.com/classic-cars/1989/toyota/land_cruiser/102276962. If not it's searchable on Autotrader under classics. Apologies for any issues
That one worked 👍

The resolution of the pics makes it hard to inspect the engine bay, but it does look like a very clean truck.

I know that you’re stoked on this rig, but man, that is a lot of money for that truck. As others noted above, there are still quite a few very nice 62s/60s that pop up around the country for prices more affordable than the one linked.

Don’t let the fever get to you. We’ve all had it… lol.

Also… check the classifieds here on Mud. Check out the rigs, check out the sellers and see what you find.

Hi All - I'm looking to purchase my first truck. I came across a beautiful 89 FJ62 here in California. $46,000 seems a bit pricey but may make sense given engine and transmission had a FULL rebuild and it has a spotless interior. I would be curious to hear if the community thought this was a fair price. 212,000 miles. The description is listed below:

This Land Cruiser is in excellent condition, with no rust, a rare find for a vehicle of this vintage. 2 owners. Meticulously cared for.

Key Features:

Upgraded Dobinson Suspension for improved off-road capability and ride comfort

Brand new exhaust system

Engine and transmission both recently rebuilt, with less than 1,000 miles on them

Interior is clean and original, with no rips or tears on the seats

Headliner in great shape

Tires have plenty of tread left and are in very good condition

Comes with comprehensive service records

Always well maintained and garage kept

This FJ62 is turn-key ready and ideal for collectors, adventurers, or anyone looking to own a piece of Toyotas legendary Land Cruiser history. Don't miss your chance to own a clean, mechanically refreshed classic.
Here is the 60 series classifieds link: FJ60 | FJ62 | BJ60 | HJ61 - https://forum.ih8mud.com/forums/fj60-fj62-bj60-hj61.330/

By the way, a good thorough inspection by a knowledgeable Land Cruiser mechanic would be invaluable at this moment. Well worth the money
x2 ^

I did chat with the seller about this one... supposedly the rebuild was done at Cruiser Tech which is probably the best in town - but I'd also say 30-35K.

The asking price and quality of the photos are at odds with each other. As others have said, a pre purchase inspection by a local shop or mud member would be mandatory for that price and used as a means to negotiate the price based on findings.

Good luck and let us know how it goes. Welcome to the forum!

Yup that's the one he mentioned! Glad to see you're local also. Thank you for this insight

Thank you friend! I'll keep everyone updated

I think nothing wrong with checking it out. Find out what "engine rebuild"specifically means. Find out if that transmission rebuild was done and what parts were replaced. See if they then subsequently added an aux/external cooler. That suspension, assuming it's the IMS setup, is roughly $2500 with no deals and no install, no alignment etc ..

Check on things like, invoice for the engine, look for replacement of bits/components, from simple stuff like the PCV valve, to all the gaskets (oil pan, pushrod cover, valve cover etc.) - tune up, plugs, wires , thermostat, hoses - I say this because they're looking for top top dollar

If you were planning/budgeting to do these things anyway, I think you consider it, but I also think you have a lot of room to negotiate because there are very few folks willing + able to spend that much for essentially a stock truck today. For 46k at full price, I'd be looking for a 62 with a decently maintained engine + an H55 already done with a transfer case rebuild done at the same time. Good luck !

"For 46k at full price, I'd be looking for a 62 with a decently maintained engine + an H55 already done with a transfer case rebuild done at the same time. Good luck !" This. Based on recent history (not naming names ... Ian :grinpimp:) that transmission will probably be needing replacing sooner rather than later.

Go look at similar priced trucks on Bring a Trailer and see if this one is worth 46K. It would have to be very special and utterly rust-free underneath.

Also, BaT has some nice historical sale data which might be helpful in understanding how the market is trending

If you would consider a 60 then there's a good one FS by a reputable MUD member here:

The 3FE is the only advantage a 62 has over a 60, albeit a very significant one. Otherwise I prefer the 60 features of manual windows and transmission. And the one above has a 5 speed. Plus they look better with the round headlights. :flipoff2:
Edit: Oops. It was working when I just posted it. Maybe Deo sold recently?
Anyway, heads up on the 62 power windows: They tend to suck-work very poorly. Be sure to check them out on any rig you look at.
