Not much oil flows up there in a fully running engine. I can’t imagine a drill is going to turn it all to get it up there. If you pour it in up there and all the oil flows down you will be fine.

Pivots on the bar in the center correct? But where does the angled S bar in the center connect to? It goes between the intake and block mounts to one of the prethreaded spot? Connector to a bracket on oil pan?

I zoomed in on a couple of pics. Yes, pivots on the center "S" bar, and that connects to the connector "L" bar which drops down between the manifolds like you said and connects to the L shaped pivot below the manifolds. I don't have an F in my '65 FJ40 (it's an SBC) so I don't really know what's original to the F single carb linkage. From the pivot that bar that is angled down and resting on the block drain plug actually connects to the accelerator linkage at the firewall, again not sure if any of that is original and reused in this setup. There is a return spring at the pivot you can see, but it doesn't look like it really fits. None of this was functional when I got the rig, so I'll have to work through getting it functional without really knowing what was or should be there. I'm assuming of course that at some point it was functional, lol. I'm going to rebuild the carbs and then get everything back in place and hopefully somehow working. Choke cable(s) and fuel line connections will be fun. But that special "spark plug in the sky" has to have some backstory, lol.

I’m pushing my bling envelope with the motor. Especially when I put the F135 sticker from SMG on it.

Hopefully I’ll be dropping the motor back on the frame in the next couple of days. My front mounts might be useable (not sure if original but round ones) but I have a set of new ones with new rubber. Searching, a few discussions on which way the new square mounts orientate have come up. One such discussion without an answer...

While on the subject, the up turned tab on the front motor mount goes to the outside, right?

Contacted SOR today, they say tab goes toward the motor. FWIW.

Paul, here's what's in my manual. Not sure if this will help.

@Racer65 this is one of your non-US OEM dizzys on an early F. Do you think it's seated far enough? I have the upgraded bracket raised up on the shaft to be able to see the gasket, which is just below the lip of the mount boss. Before the dizzy settled into the oil pump the gasket was well above the mount boss so I think it's in as far as it will go. The bracket is down on the flat and bolted in place in the final config. FWIW, the rotor turns about one spark plug wire position counter-clockwise as it seats itself on the camshaft gears, so the oil pump slot should be set as close as possible to that final position to get proper dizzy seating, and setting the rotor to the "5" position will have it settle in place as needed (old and/or non-news for anyone who's done this, but maybe it will help someone who hasn't).

That appears to be the exact depth you need seated in the oil pump. I would bet you feel the tenth engagement as you push down and are confusing this feeling with pump engagement. HTH

Take a flat head screwdriver and stick it in till you can spin the pump, mark the shaft flush with block, then measure against distributor. This should give you a great idea if you are Engaging the pump at this level.

Not seated. you can run the motor fine without the oil pump.. I know from experience.. well. Fine for a while till it sounds like a parakeet got sucked in the intake manifold and it doesn't run anymore. You can see the oil pump slot with a flashlight. Ditto on turn it with a flathead.

Yeah that earlier pic has the bracket raised up so I could see the location of the o-ring. Here’s a pic with the bracket down and in place. Looks better. In any case I’ll be spinning the motor by the starter after it’s sitting back in the frame and I’ll make sure oil is being pumped out of the regulator.

Starting to put new kits in the carter carbs. Kind of like field cleaning an AR-15 vs. an AK-47. Lots of stuff to keep track of on these (vs. the AFBs I’ve rebuilt a number of times). Wonder what the story is behind this float?

I thought straws were outlawed. (that’s the empty pulled oil pan)

1) I know how that straw got in there.

2) I’m responsible for that straw getting in there.

3) I got to practice putting the oil pan gasket, FIPG and pan back on again. Sans straw. Motor was still on the stand fortunately.
