17inch Wheels...Who's has them? (1 Viewer)

No spacers, tires are 315/70/17 Duratracs. If I'm not mistaking the measurements these wheels are essentially identical in backspacing and width to the stock wheels, just an inch larger in diameter. I'm sure they would rub offroad without a lift, so a lift is coming soon.

I would have guessed most who are no longer using OEM 80 wheels are on 17s. 37x13.50 Grapplers

Is there any rubbing for those who have 35' on 17's with a 2.5inch lift?

that answer has little to due with diameter of wheel and much more dependant of backspacing and offset numbers of chosen wheel

general answer is no though

I just picked up some 17" Tacoma "Sport" wheels for my 80. I'm planning on running 35's and no lift for the moment. It's not going offroad any time soon so maybe it wont be an issue.

I'll post a pic when I get them mounted up.

285/75/17 BF Goodrich KM2's (LOVE these tires!), on FJ Cruiser steelies. 2 1/2" OME lift and one inch spacer in rear.

I have, at my disposal, a set of Chevrolet Avalanche alloy wheels that are 7.5Jx17 ET31 6x139.7 bolt circle

The OEM wheels are 8JJx16 ET14 6x139.7

Would the 17mm of offset difference make any substantial difference in handling or clearance or bearing wear?

For the record, 2015 Taco wheels are 7.5Jx17 ET30 6x139.7

Good alloy wheels and the bowtie is a sticker that can come off or be powdercoated over....

Input sought....

Off-topic...how do you like your Baja Claws? I'm considering a set right now.
These are STT Pro's, and I'm liking them so far. Quiet-ish on the highway, good in rocks and sand. Haven't had much time with them in the snow, but looking forward to testing them out this winter.

My bad, the side lugs looked like the Baja Claws. Appreciate the response nonetheless, the STT Pro is also on my list I'm looking at.

FWIW

I ran a set of 35x12.50x15 Baja Claw Radials for about 15K on a '96 Tacoma. They wore like iron had had great street manners. They did exceptionally well in mud and sand. Never had them in snow. They did really well on nice flat rock like in Moab...they did not perform well in the loose/shale rock that we have around here though..

There's a lot of contact patch on those treads...flat rock and sand is what they like most from my experience.

I choose to run a Interco tire now days. Super Swamper TSL's work great for me due to my geographic location...

All that being said... If I had to choose an "all around" tire I would buy another set of Mickey Thompson BC's in a heart beat.

From what I have read..the Baja Claws and STT's are some of the lightest (weight wise) M/T tires on the market....Just an FYI

Have run 17"s for ~10yrs.:meh:

I just put on this same setup, with the Sequoia wheels. Not running a spacer yet. When I do put on a spacer, does it have to be lug centric, or can it be hub centric? Lots of spidertrax spacers for sale near me on FB but most are hub centric. Nice truck!

Hub centric to mount the spacer or the wheel or both ?

Went back to 17s from 20s/37s about a year ago. Prefer more sidewall. Eyeballing a 20/40 combo in the future. 😂

I have no spacers now, so I think I will need spacer to push the wheel out a bit when flexing. I think lug centric is needed if running an 80 wheel, but since I'm running a Sequoia wheel, not sure if I can just run a hub centric now.?

I think the spacer will be lug centric and the wheel will need to be hub centric.

80s can be either 93-94s are lug centric 95-97 are hub centric
I don’t think there space to mount a wheel spacer with hub centric lugs.
