The Cruiser originally came with nice cast (some say forged) wheels which limit the tire size to 35". I know there are 37's for 16" wheels but they are very limited and expensive.

17" wheels have become the small wheel / big tire standard and there are some manufacturers coming out with new tires that don't even support 16" wheels.

I'm debating whether to start saving pennies to replace my OEM wheels or run what I got until tires for the 16" wheels are almost non-existant.

Thoughts?

If you can find a tire you like that'll fit the 16's, no sense changing things up now. If you can't, then look at 17's. I spent some time a while back looking at and researching every 35-ish inch tall tire that fit a 16 and 17, and ended up with 255/85-17 Mickey Thompson Baja Bosses on first gen Sequoia wheels. There were several factors that went into landing on the Sequoia wheels. They're dirt cheap, are very easy to find, and they're narrow enough for the pizza cutters.

Anyway... yeah, I think the 16" tires are going the way the 15" tires went.

Over here I couldn't find any 315/75r16s anymore or only China made.
Largest I could find is 285/75r16. Since it's an 80 series, obviously 35s are the bare minimum.
Switched to Braid Winrace Ts + 315/70r17 Kumho At52.
Sure 315/75r16 look better on factory wheels but seems those days are numbered.
Bad pic but you get the idea

I'm interested in the new Toyo RT Pro and it starts at 17" and goes up.

I’m in the same boat. Still looking for good looking 17” wheels that are the correct width and offset and easy to find replacements if needed. I’m worried aftermarket wheels could be a hit or miss as far as buying replacements. They’re here one day and gone the next. That’s why I’m kinda set on OEM wheels l. You know if you need to replace a wheel you can still hunt down a used one on eBay or other sites. Once they discontinue a certain aftermarket wheel you’re kinda screwed.

I'm running 35" Toyo RT Pro on 17" wheels and love the set up. The tires are as quiet as any AT I've run, and much more aggressive off road. They also look awesome  Highly recommend.
