Is Drivers side Sun visor fixable?

Well after a month of my visor falling down and losing most of my visibility impaired it was time to fix it. I tried pulling the post out of the visor as described in this thread (Post 16 & 19) but it was not going to happen. So I went back to the solution shown here in this thread. After getting the mirror assembly out I noticed that the frame work inside the visor had two holes in it right where others were putting the bolts.

So that made me decide to put two screws in. I used a nail and hoped for the best on hitting those holes as I poked it through the material, no hot nail needed, and somehow nailed it both times. Pun intended...

So now for the bolts, that was the hardest part! I first tired some small bolts, size 4-40 x 3/4" but those just bent and didn't tighten enough to fix the visor, so another trip to Home Depot and I got #6-32 x 3/4" and same thing, they just broke.

So yet another trip to the HD and a little drilling to get the #8-32 x 3/4" bolts to get the job done.

So we shall see how long this last and when it does I will first try a larger washer diameter and a tighten but I will be keeping my eyes open for oak visors at the junk yards in the mean time.

Ghetto, but effective...

I have heard that tundra visors work...for about half of what LC visors cost...

I have fixed my broken image links and I will update you that my ghetto yet effective visor fix is still working 2 years later although I am always keeping an eye out for oak DS visors in the classifieds section.

Plus I only use the visor when I have to, my sun shade has a little loop at the top fortunately that I hook on the visor hook up at the roof rather than flipping down the visor twice a day.

This may be ghetto but what else do we have? Toyota stopped making the tan color or I would but a new set for sure :hhmm:

who did you hear that from?i called my local dealer and they can get them no problem in the tan color...

I read it here and called my local Toyota dealer (because you can not always believe what you read) :flipoff2:

Just finished doing this. It worked GREAT! I was about to drop some cash for new ones but this is awesome! Thanks!

I believe it was CDan that said they were discontinued.

...I just ordered a visor in the cream-colored interior of the 1997 Collector's Edition Land Cruiser. Onur had it on-hand at Amercian Toyota.

It's a plug and play solution. The visors probably won't be available forever, so get them now instead of temp fix that looks ghetto.

Call to check...they are still available in some colors...and perhaps tan IS available...

My rant is against people that put mail above their visors and therefore wore out the ability of the visor to operate correctly...idiots!

I was playing with the sunvisor like this:

1. unscrew the 2 screws that hold the visor. Hold the plastic oval shaped thingy while turning the visor counterclockwise for a complete 360 degree turn.

2. reinstall the 2 screws and now the visor can stay in place better than before but not completely.

Wondering if finding something to crimp the sun visor where you put the screws though, possibly to reseat the assembly so it holds tightly. A less-effective, but less invasive alternative to putting bolts through the sun visor.
