When he bought it the prices were right about at half or a bit higher of what they are now as far as I recall maybe 1700-1800

I think a lot of the original cost is the making of the templates… but you could be right John … it could be higher

Well I guess that's out then.
With your skills shown in you current thread, you can figure out a way to make the TROA top fit.

@JohnnyC here is a post from when he was selling the 25 in 2020. It was $3K

1959 fj25. Mostly stock. What's not stock... Has a 2 in spring lift but I have the original springs. Gm 1 wire alternator but i have a rebuildable original generator. Channel front bumper but i have an original that could be rebuilt. Missing the original rear license plate bracket and light. Speedo works but makes noise. Currently it's disconnected. Mid bed has a rust hole above the muffler but i have a new reproduction mid bed. Horns don't work. Spare tire needs a new inner tube. New exhaust. All original drivetrain. I have some spare parts like drive shafts, axle shafts, etc. I'd have to dig out and see what I have. It runs and drives great. Reproduction Badger top was 3k, has a small hole on top. I have material to do the soft doors. Uber rare factory heater. I've only seen 2 others.

Looks like he got it in February 2007.

Ok, I delivered my 25 to Badger today and got a tour of the shop. If the impressive amount of tools and material is any indication of what the final product will be, then they are going to do one hell of a job :) They have all of the hardware in stock that we need for our tops. I have 6 sample colors to send out to whomever would like them. They have a color that almost matches Phil's faded OD green top. Thats the color that I'll be using I think. They aren't crazy about using actual OD canvas due to the shrinkage of the top when it gets wet. He's not opposed to it, but feels that we wouldn't be happy with the finished product compared to the materials that he'd like us to use.

Chris and I talked for quite a while. He and I both feel that the way to handle these orders is to just go directly through him. So, he will be using my truck, Phil's top, make a prototype top for us to see, and then will be making a template for all future orders.

Send me a PM if you would like color samples.

IMPORTANT: I want to confirm the height of the rear bow. Can everyone measure their rear bow from the center to the ground?

The hits keep on coming, I received my Customs bill today. Just an FYI if you order a top.

I reached out to our friends in Colombia, but what are they supposed to do? It’s not their fault.

I’ve got two tops in transit for customers and it looks like I’ll probably lose my ass on helping them recover some of this BS. After? I’m probably done.

So sad. The 76 hard top on my 72 has seen better days. Mine was born rag top and I would consider going back. I hoping your gig would work out. I guess I could consider making my own soft top or trimming the cab and making it a pickup.

I get it..That’s a bitter pill.

Not sure how many tops go to the US v other countries. Might be benificial to use zippers and/or other products from the US.

Might be better to pay a little more for the top than $400 for Customs fee? Maybe, I don’t really know.

It’s definitely not TROA’s fault

Looks like I’ll be waiting on a bill as well. Happy to share my experiences as well. Looking at that invoice, looks like they stacked the percentages! According to my understanding of the tariffs, it shouldn’t work like that.check out the below link where it says it shouldn’t “stack” for auto parts.

This isn’t exactly my expertise, but I am an attorney and I’m happy to help out any mud members who find themselves dealing with this stuff. I’m inclined to think that fedex erred on the side of collection too much and it basically ended up double dipping.

I was looking at their tops on eBay. Noticed one one on a blue FJ40 from around 1972. All the straps would match my 73 FST. Three on each side and only two on each barn doors and four on a tailgate. It also appeared the back would only roll up to the ambulance doors height. I have that bow to add to my factory bow. Would look good in kaki on my Pollux orange 40.

Do these tops have Velcro straps on the inside to attach the top to the bows. My Kayline top had short straps with snaps on the ends to hold the window when rolled up. How do these tops hold the sides and back up?

With the tariffs unless you have the OEM style bows a Best Top would probably be a much cheaper option. That's if they are still made in the US. Is there anyone manufacturing OEM style bows in the US? Remember in this thread the question of where the zippers were made because of the metal. Imported steel would probably be even higher tariffs. Zippers turn out to be plastic so no metal involved in the $375 tariffs.
