Dear All I presently planning through the restoration of a LC 60 1988.

And the following modification from the original are planned
  • slight suspension lift and slightly bigger wheels
  • Additional Battery with a management system and certainly sockets in the car
  • elevating all breathers to underneath the bonnet & snorkel
  • secret fuel switch (in case of theft they won't go far)
  • Soundproofing the interior

Now I would like to ask you to tell me your top three modifications you did on you LC 60 apart from those ones mentioned above. Modifications you do appreciate in your daily life or in particular situations which may reoccur.

there is another two points I am not sure yet what to do, but for this I will dedicate separate threads.

Thank you already in advance for your input.

and by the way see below the "patient"

That’s easy. In no particular order, V8, dual transfer cases, differential lockers.

Modified seat brackets from TLC to provide more legroom is number 1 for me, probably not an issue for most people. Mine has the auto tranny so an aftermarket torque converter and transmission cooler have been added to hopefully give it a longer, better life. Better stereo. That's about it, really. Oh, got rid of smog pump and AC under the hood which makes it easier to get around there.
Replacing worn or rusted out parts, of course.
I have used OME rear springs with stock shackles in rear and replaced my rusty front springs with used, good condition stocks. Running extended shackles up front it sits fairly level with about 1" lift, maybe slightly more. OME shocks all around, 31" tires and it rides very well.

From all the stuff I've done, and looking at your truck.
I would say get underneath and clean up all the maintenance, new brake lines, fuel lines are solid.
Rebuilding axles with new bearings and seals. Complete brake overhaul.
Because when far from home is when little things fail. I believe in reliability first.
Then a locker and a winch.

V8 doesn't count if you haven't driven it yet :flipoff2:

For me:
4BT/NV4500 - Lockers - Custom storage/sleeping system

6BT
NV4500
HID headlights
yet to be done - leather seats out of a PT Cruiser

1. All the back due upkeep. Can't stress this enough. EVERYTHING THAT MADE A NOISE OR SHOOK.
2. Suspension with good shocks.
3. H55F and a rebuilt t case.

if I only did those, I'd be really happy with my truck.

I soundproofed the doors (inside the doors and replaced vapor barriers with deadening material) this weekend. So far it is by far the most noticeable thing I have done to my 60 besides a new suspension. It’s sooo much quieter now that I can hear all the little interior rattles that the road noise previously covered up. I’ll eventually get to the rear quarters and the floor but just doing the doors made a huge difference.

Thanks for reminding me on that one - absolutely right

Better stereo.
- certainly true - no doubt

- thanks for the link - I didn't manage to look that up yet

leather seats out of a PT Cruiser
- I thought to get the seats out of a BMW 3 or 5 series - but mechanical (maybe electrical)

- since the car will be taken apart - I will do in one go

The best necessay:
-Treat rust
-Change out all fluids
-Service Running Gear

The best unnecessay:
-OME Lift
-Front bumper w/ winch
-Snorkel Setup

Agreed! Basics first, and I would say a bumper to bumper comprehensive inspection would be the highest priority...then prioritize all that reveals. Fun mods can come later...hopefully.

Aside from lift, winch and bumpers I’d have to say enabling 2low is very high on the list.. it makes it so much easier on trails or just doing things like launching a boat or anything that requires lower gears but not 4wd I use it all the time

New OME suspension from Iron Pig Off Road..gave me great price. Changed since the 60 had original suspension on it.

My Tuffy console...storage and arm rest you can actually use.

Rebuilt JimC carburetor, with full tune up, change all fluids, hoses, belts, brakes, thorough cleaning inside and out. Now she runs great, and have a good platform to build.

Small improvements you appreciate are interior LED lights, new LED reverse lights. I have not changed the fronts except to the improved Phillips bulbs which are better than stock.

A pillar and and OH crap bar out of a 62 were added for the Queen's comfort and eased her entry and exit process. Plus you can mount a 12 volt fan on the OH crap bar to add some more air flow to the interior.

That's more than 3. But I agree with a solid baseline rig for reliability. Have fun. You can always spend money on these rigs.
