Hey guys thanks for all the comments. I took my head to the machine shop a few months ago and just found out the head is on the edge of being too warped to repair. So long story short I am mad at how long it took to get this info and am now trying to source a good used head. I am probably heading to Denver tomorrow to pick one up. Hopefully some updates soon...

As far as engineering goes, all I know is I have a lot of respect for anyone who gets the degree, hopefully my time will come.

Ah, so you found a good used head? Congrats! Good stuff man. As you well know already, go through the head before you slap her on. :)

No worries UWdave, I wasn't offended at all. You caught a miscue and I wanted to correct it. First  on me if you're in King County on the I-5, send a PM.

On another note: Engineers need to practice general mechanics/maintenance in what they design/create; get out in the shop and service the part/area of the vehicle....
I'm talking to you PHH designer :p (just kidding :))

I also agree with 400bhp with 25 mpg, Thanks 2 E L O!

Anyways, hope this build gets back on track with pictures and updates. Maybe all this talk will remind the OP there is some people watching and waiting.

I believe what jDouble has to say bout the number cruncher - smart and important job to go the shop or better the field and work on the equipment he helped design. I work in Denver best & largest hotel under one roof as maintenance and the room a/c's are not fun to work on. My bet they were built/designed on a table that could be seen from all sides. My view is bout 5 foot tall and maybe a foot wide. Bastards. This student has kicked some ass. Great job regardless of smart schooling - if he was able to apply his learnings good on him. If you need a place to stay while here in Denver PM me. I want my garage to look like yours and be able to do the same work some day. Highly impressed - I think his collar is a wierd shade of blood sweat oil bead blastings dust - sounds like a working man to me.

JOB WELL DONE SIR ! GOOD LUCK ON THE NEW ENGINE !

Now those bits and pieces will certainly help motivate!

Interested to see if you've had time to install your new goodies! After having a fun experience *sarcasm* in a river bottom a week ago I believe I too will be looking for some locked axles to install...

No, unfortunately they are still sitting on my garage floor. I am still working on actually getting this thing running. What happened that you need new axles? Sounds like a good story.

An update and some pictures...

I have been super busy with school and have had no time to work on this thing. However, this weekend I set aside some time and I think the new head is ready to go to the machine shop.

All port and polished....

More details to come on my experience with port and polishing, maybe it can help others in the future.

Gasket matching the intake manifold

Does anyone know if there is a gasket for this or is it FIPG?

I never thought this day would come but I finally got my head done.

I had the machine shop do a valve job, set the valve lash and had it planed. It has all new valves, springs, seats and seals.

Wow nice thread and great work!

Finished drilling and tapping the holes that will allow me to bolt down the valve cover baffle
