Following closely! Did you get SOR kit? I got the full headers and exhaust kit from MAF, and plan on doing this fix soon. Take lots of pictures :)

Both are nice kits. Just get a Remflex gasket and torque as it says on the package.

It’s all back together. The Wizard will be out tomorrow to glue the exhaust pieces back together.

Trying to leave nothing to chance I’m going balls deep in this AC before I get it recharged.

I’ve never done this before. What a hassle.

FYI this whole plastic piece comes out whole. Took me a while to figure it all out.

Maybe I’ll get it back in correctly. I hate dash work. My brain does not work this way.

Just an FYI from my days at the Toyota store, see if a local shop will pressure test the evaporator core. If you hate doing dash work, you surely don't want to do that again if the system gets recharged and the evaporator has a leak. You can leave it in the evaporator case to do this.

The difficulty level of this is way below many of the other things you do. Keep calm, carry on.

I burned up 2 brand new Denso pumps last time this truck was here. There is an obstruction somewhere. Pressure is no problem. It was still under pressure yesterday.

I have no idea how long this truck has not had AC and what caused it to go out.

The guy that is going to charge it this time told me to do it all.

I’m aC dumb as f so I’m following orders.

Well...I'd start with a new expansion valve...and consider a new receiver/dryer as well. No voodoo in replacing those items.

I did a dryer last time.

I just sent my condenser to the radiator shop for cleaning. I think that’s the issue.

No longer available.

As for the expansion valve. All this has to come out to replace it

If you open the system, you need a new dryer, even if new.

I would consider getting a DIY AC flush kit. Or have your AC guy flush the entire system before the next charge. I've used this on two R12 to R134A successful conversions. Advance Auto Parts - Down for Maintenance - https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/mastercool-by-adobe-air-a-c-system-flush-kit-msc91046-a/22982687-P?c3ch=PLA&c3nid=22982687-P&srsltid=AfmBOoqI5YWEavmzXDKC8ESwmq69hd79bv7maMD2bG3gsPOe8RpZ1A4yPUs

At this point the only things not new or flushed by the radiator shop will be the hoses.

Woodrow is back!

A few posts up I talked about the exhaust down pipe leak. Well, it came back so it’s here getting headers.

Also, I took the condenser off and took it to my radiator shop today to have it cleaned out for, hopefully a successful AC charge

Where did the downpipe leak from? The base of the exhaust or the connection to the catalytic converter? Was it because of a crack at one of the flange welds or uneven flange mating surfaces? Thanks for advising. Going to be getting my downpipe ready for a Air/Fuel Ratio Gauge and curious what else to check for while its getting its bung welded in. Thanks!

It was at the exhaust manifold.

It leaked round one.

We added a new donut and gooped it up with RTV and after about 200 miles it started leaking again.

I see. I can't replace the downpipe with headers because I am in California, but I will have the welds around the flanges touched up in case they cracked at some point. Thank you!

I stopped off yesterday and talked to the guy that is going to do the AC this time.

He suggested I pull vacuum on the evaporator before I jammed that thing back in place to see if I have any leaks.

My junk did not have the correct fittings so I made a Harbor Freight run for a new setup.

Damned if I didn’t have a leak. Holy hell I am glad he suggested that. I found it. Easy fix. User error and now I’m about to jam this fool thing back under the dash.

Thank you @offr0adlim0

Aight, I dumped a couple of cans of carb cleaner in all of the hoses. Aired them dry.
IMG_9418.jpeg

Got it all hooked back up with another new Denso compressor.
IMG_9417.jpeg

Now I’ve got vacuum on the whole system minus the condenser that’s still at the radiator shop. It’s holding steady. I think I’m ready.

Was the Evap Core leaking or the connections/Evap valve ?
