We shall call it Woodrow.

This thing was in Montana, it’s rust free and has 15,000 miles on an engine rebuild back in 2014.

Stock. Used. Not especially clean but a great start.

This thing looks like it’s spent time in Southern California, Idaho and Montana.

The new owner wants a mild build. Sniper and suspension and I’m going to mess with the paint a bit to see if I can preserve this patina.

I got started today stripping down the engine area and ordering parts.

The engine was poorly desmogged and it ran pretty bad but it’s not too molested under here

I got the valve cover nice and clean, added a new gasket (was leaking) and adjusted the valves

I’m not going nuts on this engine bay. Owner does not really care but I am going to clean as best I can. Fender came out pretty good

I’m done for the day early. Birthday dinner and a movie that was filmed here at my shop and farm tonight.

Back at it tomorrow.

Ol' Rip is in that one. I like the TB theme of your thread titles.

He needs to stick with Yellowstone.

Shop pics in the movie. Movie is pretty bad.

Back to Woodrow tomorrow.

While this kit is super complete, keep in mind, if you are doing a de smog at the same time, you will need a few extra items

If you have a 2F, get a new heat shield. I get them from @ToyotaMatt. When you stack the Mosley modified adapter, don’t forget to put these three studs in the adapter

Air Pump delete. I got this one from Man a Fre (fj40jim sells too), air rail delete plugs.

If you have a nice new heat insulator you don’t need extra gaskets or sealant. I also install the sniper to the adapter on a dry gasket. No sealant.

Have you stopped filling the void around the bolt heads that bolt the adapter to the manifold with sealant?

I have not in the last few.

Back to the install.

Up in the air Woodrow went for the next items in the boxes.

Mosley supplied fuel pump block

This is my preferred location of the temp sender for the Sniper. Two reasons. One, the wiring harness reaches it without extension. Two, you can make sure the block has good flow. This is a common area a dirty engine can have the coolant passages blocked. This one flowed nicely (down my arm, leg, foot) before I could stick the new sensor.

O2 sensor. Mosley provides a weld in bung. I add them if I’m doing a new exhaust. If I’m tapping into the old school single exhaust pipe I just use the sniper provided kit. I’ve yet to have an issue

Lastly, I’m going with the corvette return provided. One other little cool feature is the 5/16” to 3/8” barbs to adapt the new lines at the FJ60 tank.

All the bolts in all the engine gaskets were loose and the oil plug gasket was rock hard. Adding new fluids all down the line and maybe snugging it all up will stop some leaks.

Oil of choice.

Nothing exciting this afternoon. I replaced the upper radiator hose with OEM and clips. Added some green back inside.

Replaced all the 90wt in the driveline and started to wire up the Sniper. I’m waiting on some @Fourrunner battery cables and I’ll be able to fire this thing up.

Tomorrow I’ll start in on the 30+ year old suspension removal and replacement.
