Plenty of time to get new TREs on and set the toe in!

Yes I plan on cleaning up the rods tonight, prime the TREs (and maybe paint depending on time and temperature), and then hit them up with the POR15 on Saturday and install Sunday. Will be nice to be able to steer that thing as pushing it out of the garage is dicey!

Got the TREs primed and painted! Only had gloss black but I'm sure these things will look nasty soon enough.

No time to clean the rods will hopefully work on that in the next couple of days.

Looking great Mike!!

Wait!! What happened to your weights?? They are usually somewhere in your pictures!!

Edit: is that them in the upper left of your first picture?

I wish I had the patience to go to that detail on a refurbish - it's certainly a skillset that I never got.... with me, it's either moving or pushed back into the corner so I can ADD something else.

I'm not sure if it is patience, stupidity, ignorance, OCD, or a combination of all of them...

Might be interest to start a survey Mike... Let everyone vote...

I wish I had the patience to do good restorative work... I'd start with MY old body and work my way to 44.

Forgot to ask. What did you use to replace the dead foam with?

I used some weatherstripping I had. It worked perfectly for the space between the firewall and housing. It wasn't tall enough for the housing to side of the car so I doubled it. I should've gotten the thicker weatherstripping but was too cheap and lazy to go get it. If it doesn't work I'll then change it.

I found this product that seems to be a good replacement for the piece of foam between the heater blower and the fender vent. The thickness is exactly the same as the original one. Given it's intended to be an air filter, it should be perfect for the application. I linked to eBay because it's got a better description, but it can be bought for cheaper on Amazon.

don't get me wrong, I do honestly believe I'm blessed with ADD - after all, I get stuff done in a year that many take a decade to do; but when it comes to fine, OCD stuff, that would be your blessing

May have to pickup a roll...

Got the tie rods back in yay! Nice to be able to steer again. Of course doesn't matter since it isn't drivable. Soon though!

I still need to clean up the rod that is all rusty in the photos. I left that one on since it was I didn't need to remove to get the work done.

Also got all the rubber fuel hoses replaced in the engine compartment. Man connecting that hose to the fuel pump was a royal pain in the azz! Not sure what the designer got for putting that connection right below the oil filter bracket, but he should've gotten life! I tried so hard to put that hose on but ended up having to loosen the fuel pump to get clearance. Not sure what the muther effer counter was at, but it was pretty high. The little stainless plugs I got worked well at least.

Pls report back as to the before vs after amount of steering whee play.

On mine I can move wheel from about 12:00 o'clock to about 12:05 without really changing wheel direction... Is that much play acceptable?

I'm guessing I'm in dire need of tre's given the built up of crud and the breaking down of rubber etc..

I love this thread
