Cool stuff, thanks for sharing. For some reason I thought u had fabbed that setup. Maybe it was the straightening process u did or something.

Either way it looks get and in gonna relocate something similar for my bellview.

Theres a crank to start the engine. Is that what you mean?

Who has the crank to lower the spare setup? Now that would be cool! Oh that must be on the 55...

You could probably find a spare tire crank/lift off of an Chevy S10, in a junk yard, and install it on your 40... As long as you don't have an auxiliary gas tank under the back.

Well was gone for spring break and had Cruiser withdrawals. MUD helped with that but still not the same. Had today off and decided to to it for a drive and then got the winch closed up and mounted.

No oil inside and no controls or wires run. But happy to have it mounted!

Miiiiiiike!!!

Are you sure I didn't put that back together for you?

I always forget something... or do something in the wrong order... but, I can honestly say, I've never left out anything that large!!

Are you sure it's really needed? :hmm:

Funny I was so proud of my work and was just cleaning up the garage when I stumbled upon that beauty. What a moron.

Oh well I will have to undo about 20 bolts and re-silicone it more a nuisance really. Unless I break something or strip something out in the process...

been there, done that, got the t-shirt, sold the rights to the movie.... my absolute worse was cleaning up after the (what I thought) was successful test drive of a transfer case and transmission reseal to find a needle bearing... I thought they looked a bit loose when I put it together; but I was so careful (so I thought) to keep everything in order and where they belonged that I simply dismissed it...
with that said, I blame my brother, I was working on it in my dad's shop and while it was down, he borrowed a tire to fix a flat on his truck. He didn't tighten the lug nuts so as I'm driving the fj40 (to its new owner, lol) the tire came off (no harm other than a bit of scraping on the backing plate)... thus, he must have been also responsible for that needle bearing. In case you're curious.... I never did put it back, and to my knowledge now 20 years later (I saw it when I was in Portland on Thursday), it's still running and driving that way. That said, I think you need that bit in yours

Thanks Danny!

The plastic cleaned up pretty good, just one bad spot looks like rust or something got on it. Jeeze even vinyl rusts on these things lol. Will try a more aggressive plastic cleaner.

Man what a tight fit. Grip tester for sure. Not sure if I can actually close the back hatch. We shall see...

CLR or evaporust will get rid of it if it is rust. looks really nice man. quite lucky indeed. of course now i want a soft top.
